RS and full of energy, Skoda delivers the goods with the racy new Fabia RS. Clean lines, plenty of power and surprising levels of room and storage have formulated the Skoda Fabia RS into a nice practical hot hatch.

Let’s take a quick look under the bonnet to see whether the Skoda Fabia RS has the performance credentials to take on the world. With a smidgeon over seven seconds to complete the 0-100 km/h dash, the Skoda Fabia RS is fast. The power comes from a Volkswagen TSI unit that is fuelled by petrol and kicks out a punchy 132 kW. Enough power comes from this feisty engine to hurl the little Fabia RS along at speeds over 220 km/h – in the right place, of course. There is a nice level of power that comes on song in the mid-range which is great fun and ready to pounce on slower traffic.

You’ll find the chassis mechanics are well sorted, leading to the Skoda Fabia RS being quick around corners. Nice and tight, is how the Fabia RS flicks through left and right turns, while the ride is a good intermingling of sport and refinement. In fact, the car is remarkably quick over any road surface and is rather capable of mixing it with some bigger, beefier sports cars. Gripping well, and aided by ESP and the XDS electronic differential system, you can push the little Skoda Fabia RS along in the wet very quickly – if you dare. Paddle shifters are used to select the right gear in the 7-speed automatic dual-clutch DSG gearbox. A multi-function leather steering wheel sits nicely in the driver’s grasp, and it truly is a rather agreeable set up.

Definitely built with ease-of-use in mind, the Skoda Fabia RS is fabulous to live with on a day-to-day basis. Inside the sporty RS interior are many storage compartments for popping away the essential items for trips between states and trips to the kid’s footy games. The Skoda Fabia has a well crafted interior that works well and is pleasing on the eye. What sets the Fabia RS apart from the other Fabia models is, yes, the engine but also the RS detailing inside. As the driver, you’ll be planted behind a distinctive RS instrument panel, sitting on superbly comfortable and sporty seats, and the attractive Tempo interior gives all occupants an air of excitement.

You’ll be the talk of the town as you sneak up in the lime green Skoda Fabia RS. The RS models have a dynamic design with a stylised radiator grille and emblem. The 17-inch Gigaro alloy wheels are gorgeous and standard items on any Skoda Fabia RS model. A range of exterior colours provide ‘distinctive and sophisticated’ or ‘bold and brash’ for the Skoda RS. You can also choose the colour of the Fabia RS roof from three options of white, silver or black.

Inside the Skoda Fabia RS are a number of excellent features that include: MP3 Player and iPod connectivity, Bluetooth phone connection, a chilled glovebox, climatronic auto-air conditioning, cruise control, electric windows, split-folding rear seats, a front armrest, height adjustable driver’s and front passenger seats, a multi function trip computer, stainless steel pedals, handy storage under the front seats and tie-down hoops in the luggage compartment – a few of the great bits that make the Skoda RS great to live with. ABS braking, a full complement of airbags, traction control, ESP, front seatbelt pretensioners, Isofix rear seats (x 2), remote central locking, 3 three-point rear seatbelts, a vehicle immobiliser and a combined 6.2 litres/100 km economy figure are very features to argue over.
