So much choice belongs to the latest Subaru Impreza line-up. Hatches, sedans, fuel efficiency and performance provide the driver of an Impreza with lots to smile about.
All Imprezas, whether the base model or the WRX, have AWD as a standard item on the list, now. This is a feature that you truly need to experience to believe, because after driving AWD in the wet you appreciate just how superior AWD is over 2WD.
The Impreza’s interior design is appealing on the eye. The shapely contours and smart tones will be approved by nearly all tastes – as there is little garishness that will put occupants off. Five star safety, six airbags, traction control, a car alarm, air-conditioning, alloys, leather seats (optional), a clear sound system all make for a top rate car.
Having the ability to handle almost anything the road can throw at you is one of the key features the Subaru Impreza is noted for. With the reputation of Subaru’s all-wheel drive system, there won’t be many places that you can’t reach. Sure it’s not an off-roader but it will get you over dirt roads quicker than I can say boo!
Exterior design is an art, and Subaru has put together a nice fresh deign for the all new Impreza. The bonnet is nicely curved for extra pedestrian protection and the bumpers are more rounded than before for the same reason. Front fog lights are located nicely in the deep bumpers, while the new grille and headlight clusters finish the sporty but refined front end. Well defined but subtle crease lines emphasise the length and new body shape as they run along the side of the car and wrap around the new tailgate at the top of the sparkling LED rear lights. The higher performance models come with 17-inch alloys rather than the 15-inch. They also gain front and rear spoilers, side skirts and a diffuser below the rear bumper and above the exhaust’s chrome end cap. While the WRX has much the same, it is easily distinguished by the large air intake pod in the middle of the bonnet and the WRX STI is expected to have even more extreme styling, as befits a car that will form the basis of Subaru’s World Rally Championship contender.
The Impreza has six models available. Of course, your choice will depend on your tastes, and Subaru Australia has a line-up that is sure to fit your requirements. The Impreza R, RX and RS are powered by the smooth four cylinder boxer engine that delivers a maximum power output of 110 kW. All of these models can be linked to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed auto. The prices start at around $25,000, which is very competitive for the very well built Impreza. Slip into the WRX model and the difference in engine power is well marked. With 195 kW and a 6.9 second 0-100 km/h dash the pace is exceptional. The 2.5 litre four cylinder turbo engine is a sweet performer. However, the real scary ones are the awesomely fast WRX STi and WRX STi spec R models. The R-spec model completes the dash in a mere 5.2 seconds. The All-Wheel-Drive underpinnings mean that these mean, lean machines can scamper through corners almost faster than you can blink – such is their racing pedigree and potential. The STi models boast 6-speed slick shifting gearboxes, and I haven’t the words to praise these units enough.
The interior of the Impreza offers a host of luxuries, like a 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat and a 4-way one for the passenger, dual stage heated front seats, rear-centre armrest with trunk pass-through, electronically controlled cruise control, dual front and rear retractable cup holders. The Impreza also comes with an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a premium 6-speaker audio system with 6-disc in dash CD changer with MP3/WMA capability. Definitely, an Impreza cabin is a place you and your passengers will enjoy spending a few hours on the road in.
Safety features on the Impreza include 4-wheel Anti-lock brakes, daytime running lights, front and side impact airbags and a collapsible steering column, to name a few. However, the five-star safety rating should put this topic to rest and make you feel well at ease in your superbly built Subaru Impreza.
