Hurrying the arrival of the new 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport has been a popular move from the Suzuki brand. Many people are enjoying the sweet engine and handling prowess of the new Swift Sport Hatch. Some of us enjoy Suzuki’s ability to make really exciting motorbikes, but this prowess has definitely filtered through to the way Suzuki do cars. New Swift models are sporty to drive and superbly economical. Add Sport to the name, and the new Swift Sport looks really sexy on the outside and is just as racy on the inside.
Rivals will be getting a little bristly over the way Suzuki can churn out an exciting brand of cars with the entire features modern car buyers are looking for, but it’s all for a price that won’t break the bank. Suzuki Swift Sport models get the red accents across the fuel and speed gauges. A lovely dimpled leather D-shaped steering wheel comes with a satin finish, red cross-stitching and, most importantly, an ultra-secure grip. The seats are covered in quality material and offer good side bolster support.
Mollifying many cars with more expensive kit with its exciting engine, the Suzuki Swift Sport is a hugely fun car to drive. The 2018 Swift Sport’s 1.4-litre BOOSTERJET direct injection turbo engine doesn’t just deliver plenty of performance, it also saves on fuel. You can opt for the new Swift Sport to come with either the 6-speed auto (with Paddle Shift) or 6-speed manual transmission. Boasting 230 Nm of torque and a peak power of 103 kW, the 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport can hustle through the 0-100 km/h dash in around eight seconds. Given the right lead, the racy wee hatch can run well passed 200 km/h. This sort of dynamism makes for a pleasurable drive.
Realistic rivals for the new Suzuki Swift Sport are few-and-far-between. Perhaps, we could consider the Ford Fiesta ST, VW Polo GTi and the Peugot 208 GTi to be possible competitors; however, these rivals offer way more power than the Swift Sport. Where the Swift Sport gets one up on its rivals is that it is lighter in mass. The Euro hatchbacks are a little over a second quicker to 100 km/h from a standstill, but handling capability is similar for all of them. Another point to Suzuki comes from the Swift Sport’s pricing. The Swift Sport costs a lot less than a new Polo GTi or 208 GTi, and that has to be a big tick in the stylish new Suzuki Swift Sport’s favour. Add a full array of modern features as standard, and the new Suzuki Swift Sport suddenly looks like a real honey in this sort of company.
This is a moody little hot hatch with a great engine that loves to be revved. Out on the road the Swift Sport has a chassis that is made for the enthusiast. Capable of quick, accurate turns and a well-balanced ride, the Swift Sport builds driver confidence with its capable at-the-limit handling and keen brakes. Suzuki has done well in this department, and the Swift Sport excels as an enjoyable driver’s car.
Inside, the 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport is showy. Offering all the features you’d expect in a modern car, the sporty hatch is well equipped. Getting comfortable behind the multifunction steering wheel is easy, and the deeply bolstered front sports seats with fixed headrests trimmed in black fabric tick the comfort box. Aluminium pedals, a D-shaped steering wheel, red tacho, and red contrasting stitching for the seats and leather gear knob and steering wheel all look the part for such a car. The 7.0-inch touchscreen with built-in navigation works very well, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto give music lovers their fix while on the run. One notable feature of the latest Swift Sport model is the reverse camera, which now comes standard. On the safety front, the 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport has the latest Suzuki safety suite which includes autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, driver attention monitoring, and radar cruise control – all very nice.
Definitely a big shift forwards, the latest Suzuki Swift Sport has loads more performance. Engine power of 103 kW arrives earlier than in the previous naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre engine. Torque is the big winner for the new Turbo motor. Where the previous model put out 160 Nm at 4400rpm, the new Turbo BOOSTERJET engine has 230 Nm of torque from as low as 2500rpm. This equates to being lots punchier lower down, while giving a more complete driving experience for its owner.
One to own and enjoy, the 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport is set to do really well.
