The distributor cap is the detachable upper section of the distributor to which the engine coil lead and spark plug lead are attached. These leads carry the high voltage pulse from the coil out to the spark plugs to ignite the combustion chamber to fire the engine and turn the crankshaft.
The engine coil is connected to the rotor which spins inside the distributor cap, delivering the high voltage pulse across the contact point to a spark lead which takes the current to the spark plug.We hope that helps answer the question ‘What is What is a Distributor Cap?’!
