Taking the long way home is a favourite route of mine on most holiday journeys. If you’ve got the time, then why not see a little more of the countryside. This is the sort of way I like to think. Your special other half mightn’t always think the same way and, as is often the case, I find myself having to stick with the shortest route back home. But every now and then I get the chance to head off and explore some of the more interesting back roads, and its times like this that having a vehicle like the new Nissan X-Trail 4WD make these excursions a dream come true.
Even taking one look at the new Nissan X-Trail would suggest that the Blueprint for the latest X-Trail differs from its predecessor. The latest X-Trail is not quite as rugged in appearance as the outgoing model, however the suave appearance makes up for any absent 4×4 ruggedness of the older models. Underpinning the new Nissan X-Trail is an intuitive All-Mode 4×4-i system which can turn the smooth looking X-Trail into a capable car off-road vehicle. What the system does is it constantly controls the balance of power between front and rear wheels. Hill Start Assist is standard on the 4WD Nissan X-Trail models. When you meet a situation which demands a clean and safe take off on any slope, the Hill Start Assist makes life very easy. This has to be one of the best 4WD inventions.
Understanding the new Nissan X-Trail concept shows how Nissan have done their homework. The new X-Trail’s appealing design fits into the more urban style that most consumers are on the lookout for. Sleek lines with a modern concept make the new Nissan X-Trail ready to be loved by not only the adventurous weekender but also those involved in the school run or sport excursions. There is plenty of room inside the X-Trail SUV, and with a seven-seat model available, the possibilities become even more expanded for the competent new X-Trail. There are 18 configurations for the new innovative Divide-N-Hide cargo system, so popping all the odd shaped luggage inside the latest Nissan X-Trail becomes an easier task than you might first have thought possible.
Nissan’s X-Trail Ti model has sensors at the rear which can be activated to open the tailgate up while you are carrying an armful of gear to load into the large cargo area. Beautiful clean lines for the seats provide smart looks and practical comfort. Particularly in the front and middle rows, the leg and head room is good. A classy dash holds all the mod cons one comes to expect from a brand new SUV and, with the family in mind, Nissan has ensured that the X-Trail comes equipped with entertainment features to smooth the long journeys out for even the littlest member of the family. A superb sound system, modern Smart Phone communications with hands free technology and a strong heating/cooling system make the cabin environment entertained and relaxed.
Plenty of X-Trail model options are available, and you can choose between 2WD and 4WD. Two petrol engines are available. The smaller 106kW/200Nm 2.0-litre engine is willing and efficient. This is available for the ST two-wheel-drive model only, and has the only six-speed manual gearbox option available. All other models come equipped with the bigger 2.5-litre, 126kW/226Nm 2.5 litre engine that is linked to Nissan’s smooth and competent XTronic CVT automatic.
Nissan X-Trail boasts some great value for money safety equipment. A Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Moving Object Detection on the Ti grade, and the Around View Monitor on the ST-L and Ti grades, ensures that your new Nissan X-Trail will be checking your environment around the vehicle – probably quicker than you can say BOO! All X-Trail models come with six airbags, a rear view camera, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), a Traction Control System (TCS), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Advanced Drive Assist Display.
On the road the Nissan X-Trail has a commanding view of the road ahead, while the grippy road-holding keeps any of the cornering body roll well in check. A decent ride makes most of the road undulations remote from occupant attention, and it’s with one of these new X-Trails that Australia’s network of amazing roads becomes more and more accessible.
