Stunning is one word I would use to describe the 2014 Mazda3 Sedan. I love this design. Mazda have created a new small-to-medium size sedan that has an elegance and poise about the way it looks and the way it drives. If I stop to think about the Mazda3 exterior design and compare it with what’s available in its class, I don’t think there are many cars that will match the sexy curves and lines of this fantastic new Mazda. The way the new Mazda3 looks instantly puts the car in the same league as the BMW 3-Series and Citroen C4 – both of which have award winning designs.
Slip inside, and the Mazda3 cabin reveals a continuation of a fresh new design that is flowing and modern. Perhaps not quite up to the BMW 3-Series standard, the Mazda3 still provides nice style and plenty of fantastic features. Technology inside the new Mazda3 Sedan wows and informs its occupants. We take for granted that the next best smartphone device or new piece of computer software will be due on the shop shelves to provide quicker communication, easier use and more user friendly options, and that’s why the technology in new cars continues to move swiftly. Mazda understand the lives most of us live are connected with all of the latest new devices and technology, so it has made sense to Mazda to have their cars equipped and available as a hub of modern technology. When you come to drive the new Mazda3 Sedan, all the features on-board the car connect you very quickly to compatible smart technology. Mazda3’s MZD Connect brings you web content including music, audio books, podcasts, Facebook and Twitter connections. Any emails or texts that are sent through to your Smartphone can be read aloud by the car’s on-board computer, making for safe driving and quick communication with friends and work colleagues. Using your voice, you can switch between features on the main menu. Satellite navigation is very up-to-date and the feature is clear and simple to use. Inside every new Mazda3 Sedan is a strong audio system that provides crisp sound for your entertainment. While on the topic of features for every Mazda3 Sedan, air-conditioning, cruise control, a trip computer, an audio system, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio capability, and a USB input (iPod compatible) are standard.
On every account, the Mazda3 Sedan impresses with the high level of design and standard features for your drive. Safety is taken very seriously by the Mazda design team, and that’s why we see that the safety cage is made up of modern materials that achieve amazing lightness and rigidity. Key joints are strengthened by advanced techniques and the result is a new Mazda3 Sedan that cocoons its occupants with world-class collision performance. Every model has a high standard of safety features that come as standard across the range. Airbags for the driver and front passenger, side front airbags for the driver and front passenger, curtain airbags for the front and rear, ABS, EBA, EBD, DSC, TCS, an Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) and Hill Launch Assist (HLA) are all present and ready for when they may be required.
2014 Mazda3 Sedans come powered by either a 2.0-litre or 2.5-litre petrol engine. Both engines are quick and punchy through the revs. The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine offers 114 kW and 200 Nm. The 2.5-litre, four-cylinder engine offers 138 kW and 250 Nm. One of the delights of both engines is that they are very economical. A new i-stop system helps save on fuel, as it turns off the engine when you come to a halt. The engine fires into life the instant you press the accelerator. Six-speed auto and manual gearboxes are the go for the new Mazda3 Sedan. Crisp, light and smooth, the auto is very good. If you opt for the six-speed manual, you’ll enjoy quick, sporty shifts through the gears.
Essentially, there are seven models of 2014 Mazda3 Sedan available. On each of the models (except the SP25 Astina) you can choose whether you want the extra safety pack. The safety pack includes features like a rear-view mirror with an auto-dimming function (standard on SP25 GT), a Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) system, a Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system and a Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system. The Mazda3 SP25 Astina Sedan has the safety pack as standard.
Delightful to drive, and very appealing to look at, the new Mazda3 Sedan is a very smart buy.
