There are a few subtle changes for the new A5 exterior.  2016 sees the grille get angled corners, narrower headlights and pronounced chiselling in some of the panelling.  The bonnet is still wonderfully curvaceous but now has some crimple lines to enhance the A5’s performance credentials – giving it a more energetic and muscled look.  The sweeping roof line and wide stance is still highly addictive, unmatched by most modern design standards.

Slip inside this baby, and the feeling of comfort and pleasure mingle into a cabin that is indulging and advanced.  On each model the leather interior is lovely, the colour tones are beautiful and the trim enhances the new A5’s attractive specs.  Standard on any of the three Audi A5 models is: Audi Drive Select – where engine, transmission and chassis are all adjusted according to the dialled in mode preferred by the driver, adaptive cruise control, a parking system which uses cameras, heated electric wing mirrors, Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights – look amazing, an auto dimming rear vision mirror, three-zone climate control, light and rain sensors, a multifunction leather steering wheel, electric front seats, Milano leather trim, sport front seats, Audi Music Interface, Audi’s MMI navigation plus with a 7-inch touch screen, a ten-speaker premium sound system and a Bluetooth interface with live audio streaming.  An Assistance package gets you Adaptive cruise control including Audi pre sense front with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Audi side assist for a small additional cost.  An upgrade to 19 or 20-inch alloys creates a more striking visual impact, as well.

Luxury Audi A5 Interior

The new Audi A5 series has a range of engines for Australia.  It is really nice to see the smaller 1.8 TFSI engine is available.  This is a sweet runner that puts out a punchy 125 kW of power and a maximum torque of 320 Nm.  You have enough thrust to propel you from a standstill to 100 kjm/h in a little over 8 seconds, so getting into a base model A5 is easy.

The other petrol-engine on offer is the 2.0 TFSI unit with 165 kW of power and a maximum torque of 350 Nm.  Boasting Quattro AWD and an S tronic ytransmission this is a swift performer – and frugal, too.  A 0-100 km/h in 6.4 seconds is pretty sharp for a Coupe like this one.

Two powerful TDI engines are available for the Audi A5 Coupé.  The particularly economical 2.0 TDI uses the best diesel technology to create 130 kW – accessible via a smooth multitronic transmission.  The premium diesel engine is the 3.0 TDI quattro that boasts a 180 kW engine and an S tronic transmission.  With the strong 3.0-litre TDI engine under the hood, the new A5 Coupé requires just under six seconds to reach 100 km/h from a standstill.
