Subaru Impreza Sedan 2017

Hop inside the 2017 Subaru Impreza and the cabin is cleverly designed, attractive and with all the mod-cons.  Finding your right position in the driver’s seat is stress less, with multi adjustments available in the seat as well as the steering wheel.  Being stretched through the wheelbase, the newest Impreza finds more room for the passengers in the back seats.  All-in-all, the Impreza rides nicely and is set up to make its owners happy for many miles ahead.

Of the two Impreza styles, the hatch is perhaps the nicer finisher of the car’s back end.  That said, the new Impreza sedan still looks good, and when the spoiler is added to the boot lid the back end becomes a little more exciting.  Side on, and the sedan has aerodynamic lines that flow nicely up and over a roomy cabin space.  The low nose is well proportioned and balanced.

As mentioned above, the Impreza has more room between the wheelbase of the 2017 model design, but that’s not all.  Subaru have also made the new car wider than the outgoing model.  This has definitely made the car nicer in the back seats for larger adults.  Access to the boot space is also easier for the new model, thanks to the boot opening being 10 cm wider on the hatchback and 12.7 cm wider on the sedan.  You can swing a number of bags into the Impreza sedan or even a set of golf clubs, however there are cars in the same class that will swallow more luggage.  The Impreza sedan will take 351 litres of luggage in the boot.  If luggage space is something of a concern, then the hatch is the one to go for as it is has a very healthy appetite for swallowing cargo.

On the road, the new Impreza handles very well.  The AWD comes into its own when the road gets slippery.  Accurate, nimble handling is enjoyable.  Engine power comes from a flat four-cylinder, 2.0-litre motor that ticks over nicely without being exceptionally quick.  If you want fast, then you’ll need to look at the WRX models.  One of the noticeable things about the CVT Impreza sedan is that it is quiet and refined.

The basic Impreza Sedan is called the 2.0i Sedan, the well-equipped Impreza is known as the 2.0-L Sedan, while the loaded-with-kit Impreza is the 2.0i Premium Sedan and Limited versions.  Want a sporty flavour?  Subaru has the Impreza 2.0i-S Sedan to fill the gap here.  The new Impreza model range is broad and will suit a wide range of tastes.  The Premium model is loaded with heaps of nice features, as standard.  Some new options for the Impreza include a Harman Kardon sound system, adaptive cruise control and reverse automatic braking.

There will be a number of people who will like what the base Impreza 2.0i Sedan has to offer.  Coming standard with 16-inch steel wheels, a five-speed manual transmission (or a continuously variable transmission is optional), cloth material on the seats, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, power windows, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, says a lot for the way the Impreza is kitted out.

Premium Impreza sedans get the CVT as standard, a 16-inch set of alloy wheels, Subaru Starlink services, heated front seats, windshield and exterior mirrors, and automatic headlights.  With Premium models you also get the option of a power sunroof, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and fog lights that adjust to the steering angle.

For me, I like the combination of sport and luxury that the Sport Impreza sedan provides.  In Sport guise the Impreza has a little more street presence with a boot lid spoiler, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights, a sports tuned suspension, keyless entry, keyless ignition, an 8-inch touchscreen display, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a Harman Kardon audio system, active torque vectoring for improved traction and a sports flavoured interior.  A five-speed manual transmission is also available for the Sport model.

Limited Impreza sedans add leather upholstery, a six-way power driver seat and an automatic climate control system.  Automatic high beam logic, satellite navigation and Subaru’s Eyesight system (adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure alert and lane keeping assist) are features that the Limited models boast.  Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and reverse automatic braking are also available options.

Safety is a strong point for all Subaru models, whether they are large or small.  The long list of safety features and the crash test results have earned the Impreza sedan the full five stars, a result you want to have in any new car you buy these days.  Some of the Impreza sedans can be equipped with optional adaptive cruise control and Lane Keeping Assist as well.

Handling is a strong point for the new Impreza range.  The car has minimal body roll and loads of grip.  A quiet, comfortable and roomy cabin completes the 2017 Subaru Impreza sedan off nicely.
