The addition of the 2018 Infiniti Q50 brings more refinement and technology to Infiniti’s beautiful luxury sports sedan. As a new model, the latest Q50 brings more power, potency and excitement to the table. There are not heaps of Infiniti cars on our roads, yet, so there remains a level of exoticness and aura around the exciting new Infiniti brand of cars.
Stepping into a 2018 Infiniti Q50 is like stepping into a new world of luxury and refinement. A pure sports/luxury sedan, the Q50 boasts a sporty, sophisticated interior that is beautifully crafted and instantly inspiring. Sport leather seats with multi electronic adjustment enhances the driving comfort, while the dash design is fresh and elegant. Swooping lines that connect the dash fasciae pleasure the eye with clean, elegant style. Keeping the sweeping outline, the dash flows around to meet the curves of the door panelling. Neat chrome trimming pretties up the look of the interior and an array of colours, inserts and detailing ensure the new Infiniti Q50 looks distinctively yours. Red double-stitching lines the upper dash, lower console and shift knob of the Q50 Red Sport performance models.
Front seat occupants are very comfortable, so what’s life like in the back? Infiniti’s design team have ensured the level of comfort and luxury continues to the rear of the cabin, and rear seat passengers have plenty of leg room and width. You can easily seat three across the back seat, though the middle occupant has a slightly elevated cushion that might not be quite as comfortable as those with window seats. There is a sense of space about the Q50 sedan, and for its class the car is nice and roomy. Boot space has the capability of swallowing up to 500 litres. Cup holders in the centre console can take a proper cup of coffee in a proper coffee cup for front seat occupants; there is a Bose 16-speaker audio system for premium sound entertainment, and Infiniti’s connection to smart technology uses dual touchscreens to let you cycle through a variety of tools and content.
‘Infiniti InTouch’ is specially created for keeping occupants connected to online activity and multi-faceted information technology while on the move. One can connect to the information control centre via voice command, controller dial or the dual touchscreens. Automatic driver recognition is a feature that is part of the Intelligent Key system, so any regular driver is automatically recognized for electronic seating adjustment – according to preference. Smartphone connectivity technology is the new Infiniti Q50 way of life, so climb aboard and wireless charging and connectivity to your phone is automatic and easy.
Lovely to ride in and lovely to drive, the 2018 Infiniti Q50 is a driving enthusiast’s kind of car. You’ll effortlessly enjoy mile-after-mile of smooth responsive handling and powerful performance. As road conditions change, the new Q50 sedan automatically adjusts your vehicle’s body roll, pitch and bounce rate for that extra smooth, controlled and comfortable ride. Equipped with a ‘dynamic digital suspension’, the driver has a choice of two distinct settings. Standard mode is for comfortable, dynamic handling, while the Sport mode offers firmer dampening and greater agility.
AWD is a standard feature of most new Q50 models, and with enhanced levels of grip across the full range of road surfaces the sophisticated AWD system has commanding control. Infiniti’s AWD system has RWD bias in much the same way as BMW’s xDrive system does, giving the Q50 plenty of dynamic handling for that sporty drive. FWD is engaged accordingly with RWD as more traction is required for the complete intuitive AWD system.
Any 2018 Infiniti Q50 engine will be a strong performer, however the flagship model does boast the 3.0-litre Twin-Turbo V6 that packs 298 KW. A 224 kW output for the same twin-turbo V6 is also available. These two engines are petrol units and are super refined and powerful. Infiniti also offers a large 3.5-litre V6 petrol hybrid with a maximum output of 268 kW and 546 Nm of torque. Quiet, refined and a bit of a ‘sleeper’ the Hybrid can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 6 seconds.
Entry Infiniti Q50 models offer the sports sedan in RWD with a petrol-fed 2.0-litre, DOHC 4-cylinder Turbo engine rated at 155 kW. It might be the smallest, but the 2.0T motor still delivers performance in spades. A 0-100 km/h sprint can be completed in a little over 7 seconds, and on the right piece of road can run on to 245 km/h. Offering 350 Nm of torque also keeps the pulling power strong and flexible throughout the engine revs.
Infiniti safety features include items like a special Infiniti Safety Shield package with Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Back-up Collision Intervention, Blind Spot Warning and Intervention, Lane Departure Warning and Intervention, and Intelligent Cruise Control. An Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) with High Beam Assist is also present. The previous generation Q50 sedan provided a five-star safety result in EuroNcap crash testing, so with even better systems on-board the 2018 Q50 sedan, we can expect it to match, if not better, the previous result.
GT, Sport Premium and Sport model trims are available, with the Sport and Sport Premium offering top-shelf luxury. Want to drive a vehicle that has class and distinction? Infiniti Q50 sedans are a sport/luxury drive that’s set to impress.
