Meet the brand new, or should that be grand new, Lexus LS 500.  It has to be one of the most futuristic looking vehicles on our road, with gorgeous curves, intricate grille and sleek LED slim-line headlights and DRLs.  Being the Lexus flagship the LS500 is phenomenally well-made and very nice to drive.  Competing directly with the BMW 7-Series, Mercedes Benz S-Class, Audi A8, Volvo S90 and Infiniti Q70, you have to drive well and look special enough to get noticed.  Initially, Lexus had comfort and reliability being the draw card for earlier LS models, but today we see a Lexus LS that adds class-leading performance, luxury and beautiful style as well.

The new Lexus LS 500 is a very advanced car that’s packed with interesting and luxurious features.  Cast your eye over the swooning dash and the styling is gorgeously finished in stitched leather panelling.  For the driver, the instrument cluster displays a digital speedometer and virtual HD rev counter.  The new 2018 Lexus LS 500 boasts the biggest Heads-up display in the business, spanning a full 24-inches across the windscreen.

Room inside the new Lexus LS is superb, and the car allows tall adults to enjoy more than enough leg room for the long journey.  Two rear seat passengers are treated to first-class comfort, and there is even a three-mode blind selection for keeping the sun out of your eyes and occupant space.  The electronically adjustable sun shades are fitted to the rear door windows as well as the rear glass window behind the back seats.  The two back seats are fully reclining, offer massaging functions and are temperature controlled independently of each other.  There are four USB ports inside the cabin (2 up front and 2 in the rear).

Riding inside the new Lexus LS 500 is extremely serene and quiet.  Boasting five different alloy wheel designs you are going to look amazing, however there is more to these alloys than meets the eye.  Lexus have hollowed out the rims to mute road noise as well as for saving weight.  Another cool luxury feature involves the air suspension that will raise 35 mm when stopped – allowing for an easier exit and entry for occupants.  Once you are inside and ready to move, the LS 500 ride height drops down again – now that’s premium luxury!  Doors, on closing, will not shut completely first time, as Lexus has allowed for the doors to have a momentary pause before completely closing automatically.  This allows the air pressure to escape and for the kids not to slam the door!

The 2018 Lexus LS 500 is opulent, no doubt about it!  But, there is even a CD player because Lexus believe most of the car’s buyers will be middle-aged and not so MP3/USB/Smartphone dependant.  That’s not to say that the car hasn’t got all of the Smartphone wireless connection and charging functions along with all the latest app connection software – it has.  Music lovers will be thoroughly pampered to arguably the best premium surround-sound audio system you will get to experience inside a car, though Volvo’s S90 has a nice sound too.  Lexus uses a Mark Levinson sound system with the 23-speaker arrangement that is just sensational.

The flagship Lexus LS 500 has to be powerful in order to capture the heartbeat of its buyers.  Boasting a silky smooth 3.5-litre, V6 engine linked to a 10-speed automatic, the big luxury sedan can sprint from zilch to 100 in a mere 5.0 seconds flat.  A full 310 kW of power is delivered through the twin-turbo V6 engine design, and believe you me the speed climbs effortlessly very quickly.  One wonders what the sleek sedan could actually run up to given that the car is electronically limited to 220 km/h.  The 2018 Lexus LS 500 can be selected to drive via RWD only or AWD.  Grip for this luxury barge is impressive, and  fuel consumption is 10 percent better than you find in the outgoing LS 500 model.

Safety systems inside the 2018 Lexus 500 is as good as you’ll get, with automatic steering, collision detection and avoidance, active cruise control, autonomous braking and more are all part of the standard flagship package.
