Holden’s getting real serious with the arrival of the flagship Acadia SUV. Quiet, big, smooth, safe… what other superlatives could we use? Luxurious and comfortable come to mind. Connecting wholeheartedly with the American GMC brand, who incidentally are said to make the best SUVs in America, Holden now have a fully kitted out RHD ‘Holdenised’ version of GMC’s big seven-seater SUV.
Burly and immense, the 2019 Holden Acadia SUV heads straight to the top in terms of size, comfort, technology and styling impact for the Holden brand. First impressions of the Acadia lines are that this is a substantial, stately and intimidating luxury SUV putting it right up against the Audi Q7, Ford Everest, Hyundai Santa Fe and Range Rover for best marks in design and function. Executively styled, the 2019 Holden Acadia has the full-size set of seven seats in leather, with premium comfort part of the deal. Look over the third row and you’ll discover a big boot that will swallow plenty of cargo. With one-touch folding seats, sumptuous leather-appointed trim and USB ports in all three rows, it’s a genuine seven-seater cleverly designed for maximum comfort and flexibility.
With its big, high bonnet that steeply drops away over the large integrated bonnet design, the Acadia is unquestionably good looking. You get the best appreciation of its size and lines standing side-on to the big SUV. The Acadia is an executive-styled SUV that offers a full-size seven seats and big load-carrying ability.” The Acadia has a bold, fresh look which separates it nicely from other SUV design cues. The American styling always draws attention and offers a commanding road presence wherever the Acadia parks up.
Out on the road, the driver has a sumptuous seat that electronically adjusts in conjunction with the steering wheel to locate the best seating position. Looking out over the big Acadia bonnet is a buzz, and when underway the commanding view combines with a well-planted and surefooted chassis that makes driving secure and pleasurable.
Occupant safety is at the heart of the Holden Acadia drive, and so you’ll find it equipped with trailer assist, traffic sign recognition, a 360 degree camera, autonomous emergency braking, auto high-beam, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and forward collision alert with a Head-Up warning display.
Powering the brand new seven-seater Holden Acadia SUV is the newly tweaked 3.6-litre, V6 petrol engine producing 231Kw of power and around 360 Nm of torque. The hefty performance is silkily put through a nine-speed automatic with a new advanced twin-clutch AWD system. Stop/start engine technology and active fuel management means that the Acadia keeps its thirst for fuel as minimal as possible. You can expect an average economy of around 12 litres/100 km depending on how you access the punchy performance.
On the open road the V6 impresses with its refinement and overtaking ability, and when the hills come there is plenty of torque to overtake, too. As the 3.6-litre is a known entity inside the current new Commodore range, if you’ve ridden in a 3.6-litre Commodore you’ll know how the engine packs plenty of smooth power. If you need a tow vehicle, the Holden Acadia will easily be up for 1800 kg. For a large SUV it offers composed handling and confident cornering ability, while city driving is easier than you’d expect. The new Acadia is 4917 mm long, 1915 mm wide and 1745 mm high with parking sensors and aids as part of the equipment.
Ride comfort and handling prowess is very good, and the serene cabin atmosphere makes this one of the best driving SUVs you’ll buy. You feel like you’re driving a car rather than a 1.9 tonne SUV. The ground clearance is 182 mm, much lower than a new Holden Captiva.
Luxury helps to make the journey comfortable as well as entertaining, and with the new Acadia you’ll have features like keyless entry, push-button start, tri-zone climate control, USB ports across all three rows, navigation and a rear-view camera. The new Holden infotainment system will offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and there’ll even be features like wireless charging, a hands-free tailgate and a dual-panel panoramic sunroof for those who need it all.
The new Holden Acadia SUV brings a fresh new stance to luxury motoring. Drive one and feel the difference. Time will tell if there are other engine alternatives in the mix, but for now let’s just appreciate the strong V6.
