Skoda’s new Karoq has a special vibe. Being a vehicle that can take you places in comfort, the new Karoq is the perfect SUV for comfortable family touring. Thanks to the roomy cabin space, the new Skoda Karoq has the room to get you and your family away from the city life and out to the wide open spaces.
Hop in the front seat and the space is excellent. You’ll easily get yourself comfortable if you’re the driver as both the seat and steering wheel have multi-adjustment capability. Cast your eye over the dash, and the design is really functional and looks very smart. The quality of materials used across the dash is very good, so you really are treated to a quality cockpit – if a little bland in colouring and trim. A cool storage compartment on the top of the dash is a nice touch and makes up for the smaller glovebox. The doors can easily take a big bottle of water to keep you hydrated and pumping on your long trip away.
There are plenty of bells and whistles in the new Karoq, so there is no shortage of modern technology and comfort features. The 9-inch touchscreen is top notch and boasts features like: DAB radio, gesture control, a rear view camera, satellite navigation, and Bluetooth streaming. Wireless phone charging is also a nice touch. Leather seats, heated seats, 19-inch alloys, Lane Keeping Assist, a panoramic glass roof and a powered tailgate are other features on offer that make you Karoq very special.
Some cool features about the new Karoq is you have a Smartphone App dedicated to your Karoq which will allow you to do things remotely, like check how much fuel you have left, honk the horn remotely at passers-by, pre warm the cabin temperature and check its location. Cup holders also have a grippy base so as you can have the bottle sitting inside the cup holder to take the lid off the bottle with one hand.
While not the largest SUV on the market, you will be surprised at how spacious the new Karoq is. Hop into the back seats and there will be plenty of leg and head room for adult passengers. On the back of the front seats are little fold out tables for rear seat passengers to place their food or laptop on. Fold out cup holders on the side of the tables allow for you to have a cup of coffee on the trip, as well.
The view out the rear side windows is big, and you’ll get a good view of the mountain scenery – even if you’re in the middle back seat. Both rear doors have large storage bins in which you can store your drink bottles. The seating pack provides reclining back rests for rear seat passengers, and both window seats can also slide forward and backwards adding even more practicality and function to the Karoq’s comfort levels.
Of course, the multi adjustment on the rear seats along with split folding means that luggage space has various forms and functions too. You can even take the middle seat right out and have very spacious executive seating for two adults in the rear. Boot space in the new Karoq is big, and there are also some handy storage compartments in the boot, hooks, a 12V socket and luggage nets. Actually, as far as a practical medium-size SUV goes, there are few more practical in this class of vehicle than the Skoda Karoq, so take the hint and here is my big thumbs up to Skoda!
Want to take the kids out and smell the flowers in the botanical garden? The Karoq is the car for you. It’s equipped with loads of premium safety features, and will even detect and stop for pedestrians all by itself. On the road the Karoq has really steady control and accurate, light steering which makes for very easy driving about town and relaxed motorway work. As the speeds increase the Skoda has excellent body control and a nice comfortable ride. Your new Skoda Karoq has the 7-speed automatic transmission which is pretty smooth and well sorted.
FWD is the only option, so you’ll need to look to another SUV should you want to tackle off-road. It’s a bit of a shame that the 2.0-litre diesel Karoq with loads of torque and AWD isn’t offered in Australia, because it also gets a fully independent rear suspension which soaks up bumps beautifully.
In Australia you get your new Skoda Karoq with just the one engine: the 1.5-litre turbo petrol – which is quite nippy. The 1.5 TSI Turbo can shove the Karoq from a standstill through to 100 km/h in around nine seconds or just under. It puts out 110 kW, has peak torque of 250 Nm and can run onto a top speed of over 200 km/h should you want to. Fuel economy is very good, so you’ll often see less than 6 litres/100 km of fuel being consumed.
You are going to look pretty nice in a new Skoda Karoq. The SUV looks modern, looks classy, and has nice headlamp and taillight styling that gives you plenty of street cred for a night on the town.
Like the Kodiaq, the Karoq name has its roots in the language of the Alutiiq people of Alaska. While the Kodiaq just borrows its final “q” from the Alutiiq language, the Karoq is a blended mix of two words: kaa’raq meaning car, and ruq for arrow. When all is said and done, the brand new Skoda Koraq is a brilliant mid-size SUV that does the job intended of it extremely well. A family SUV by choice.
