Wow, the 2019 Ford Focus Hatch has some serious eye-catching lines. Ford promises that this is a version stacked with amazing advanced technology, so much so, that it sends the new Focus Hatch to the top of its class of car.
Each new Ford Focus model has its own grille to help distinguish it from the others. If you like things to be sporty, then the new Ford Focus ST Hatch is one hot number that shines with its streamlined and aggressive front nose treatment. A honeycomb grille and large air intakes really do make it stand out. The luxurious Titanium Ford Focus Hatch draws on elegance and it boasts a lined chrome grille for a striking appearance. There is even a new Crossover Ford Focus which is raised and ready to tackle light off road duties, but we’ll consider this one at a later date. Just to let you know there is also a new Ford Focus wagon. So 2019 is an exciting year for those hankering on a Focus upgrade, and what a fantastic car to get yourself into.
The 2019 Ford Focus Hatch rides on alloys up to 18-inches, depending on which model you choose. Of course the sportier ST model sits on the widest rims. A sport package has side skirts to enhance the dynamic lines and at the rear you get quite a sizable rear roof spoiler – all very nice indeed! The rear of the new Ford Focus Hatch is very nicely penned out, with twin exhaust outlets on the sportier models along with an air diffuser and elegant LED taillights.
While around the back of the hatch, let’s take a look inside the boot where the luggage space is 375 litres with the rear seats in place. Drop the back seats flat, and the hatch’s capacity jumps to 1353 litres – all very useful for when the hols come round. So, against the outgoing model the new Focus Hatch boasts 53 more mm between the wheels. This leads to more space in the cabin, which is really nice and roomy for its class. Inside, front seat passengers score two cup holders, with two more cup holders available in cars equipped with a rear centre armrest. Rear seat space is very good – loads better than the outgoing model and even class leading. There is plenty of useful storage compartments, and the seats provide excellent support and comfort. ST models get the sporty interior tones which look cool – especially the red accent stitching.
New clever technology includes intense headlights that are able to detect corners and bend to shine light on the road ahead of you that’s not directly straight ahead – if you know what I mean. The camera technology calculates the curve and causes the headlights to shine the best light further around the corner so as night driving becomes superbly safe without major dramas.
An increase of 20 percent body stiffness means the 2019 Ford Focus handles even better and also makes it even sturdier in crash testing. A full five-star safety result is just the news you’ll be wanting to hear for what is arguably the best hatch available. If you’re having to emergency brake at speed, the new Focus Hatch actually stops quicker than the old one (by lots) thanks to the new brake boost technology. One other awesome new Ford Focus feature is the Heads-Up display screen (optional on Titanium) that is the best in the class with bright and easy-to-read data.
While we’re talking safety, if your new Focus comes with the Self-Parking feature (optional on Titanium), it is a really advanced feature that not only steers you into a park, but it also controls the throttle and brake controls so you don’t have to do a thing – just point and shoot as they say. Bad car parkers, here’s your car! Also standard on the 2019 Ford Focus Hatch is the autonomous braking systems that prevent you from crashing into things. Other cool safety features include radar cruise control, Lane-Keep Assist, and object detection and avoidance.
Base models get a torsion beam at the rear, while more expensive models get independent rear suspension. One of the areas that is particularly impressive is the car’s ride quality. Models equipped with damper control are very good at controlling the car’s chassis on rough roads. This new Focus Hatch is a pleasure to drive with just the right mix of comfort and dynamism – particularly with the Hatches boasting rear independent suspension. A benchmark car, definitely.
In terms of interior flair, the 2019 Ford Focus Hatch hasn’t got the most eye-catching dash, but it has been designed carefully for making it easy-to-use and very functional. It’s nicely styled, almost going back to a simpler landscape that’s less busy on the eye, which I think is a good thing. You can snazz up the dash with some fake carbon inserts and other types of trim. Ford’s SYNC infotainment system is available, and it’s one that has shown its superior capabilities. The touchscreen looks cool and boasts all the latest features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Smartphone wireless connection, sat nav, a 180 degree reverse camera, a grunty sound system, and Heads-Up display (Titanium).
Ford’s latest range of Focus engines are decent units with excellent power and efficiency. Both diesel and petrol engines are available in Europe, but I think that in Australia we’ll see just the superb little 1.5-litre powering the range. The eight-speed auto is a gem. So even the sporty ST version has the 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo plant with 135 kW to run riot (0-100 km/h in less than 8 seconds). You can expect less than 5 litres/100 km regularly, thanks to the three-poke engine design incorporating cylinder deactivation technology.
Options are available, so things like a prestige paint job, a Driver Assistance Pack (Trend, ST-Line), a Design Pack (ST-Line), a panoramic roof, (ST-Line, Titanium), Head-up display (Titanium), and Active Park Assist 2 (Titanium).
Cool cars are worth the money, and without a doubt the 2019 Ford Focus Hatch is a class-leading package worth saving up for.
