Here is the 2019 Lexus LX.  Simply stunning; the textures, materials, solid feel, loads of space and gorgeous luxury make this a true Range Rover rival.  I reckon this has every bit the right mix of complete luxury features and glamour whether out there roughing it in the back country or cruising the city night life.  And the thing about a Lexus LX is that it’s based on the legendary Land Cruiser, so this is the luxury off-road king with an awesome reliability record to boot.  Speaking of ‘boot’, inside the new Lexus LX you’ll be able to fit everything you’ll need and then some for that holiday away.

To look at, the new Lexus LX is huge and boxy, but the Lexus styling team has made this superbly attractive.  Unmistakingly Lexus, the signature grille swoops across the front integrating the triple lens headlamps gracefully.  Massive alloys shod with P285 50/R20 rubber look the part, while the muscly lines of the SUV’s flanks run a high waistline.  Dropping away at the rear is a clean finish with nicely tucked taillights and a wide tailgate.  Open the powered tailgate, and a luggage space anything between 259 litres and 1267 litres becomes available.  When using five seats with the third row folded you have a colossal 1085 litres of cargo space, just perfect for an active family lifestyle.

2019 Lexus LX Luxury

Enter into the premium grade interior, and the new 2019 Lexus LX is simply breath-taking.  Cabernet red interior colouring is my favourite, but Lexus also offers dark back and light parchment interior colouring.  The driver is pampered with 10-way power adjustable seats, while the front passenger enjoys 8-way power adjustment.  For added convenience the 2019 Lexus LX features power sliding second row and power folding third row seats.  The 3-zone independent climate control lets passengers in each row set their own personal temperature accordingly.  A total of eight seats are available.

2019 Lexus LX Cabin

The 2019 Lexus LX cockpit is superbly comfortable.  In this Lexus you can really eat up the miles effortlessly and in premium comfort.  A 12.3-inch colour LCD display for easy viewing of the multimedia and navigation system keeps driver and passengers engaged and informed.  The ultra-wide screen can also deliver high-resolution graphics and images from the backup camera and is an invaluable aid especially when off-roading or manoeuvring a trailer.  You favourite music tracks are brought to life with the Lexus-exclusive 450 Watt, 19-speaker Mark Levinson Reference Audio System that features two USB audio inputs and 7.1 Channel Surround Sound speaker architecture to envelop you in the joys of a full concert sound.  Lexus LX SUVs come with an in-dash DVD system that also features Dual Rear Seatback 11.6-inch screens and two sets of wireless headphones no less.  The wireless charger makes on-the-go connectivity to your smartphone even easier, and the LX SUV offers voice-activation for on-board features.  Satellite navigation, a huge head-up display, and Lexus’ Remote Touch interface puts intuitive control of all multi-media at your fingertips gives you the ultimate luxury SUV experience.

On the road the Lexus sits securely and in control.  A Drive Mode system adjusts multiple systems while on the move – including powertrain and suspension – to let you maximize power, efficiency or pure driving pleasure.  You have the option of settings like ‘Sport+’ to firm up the adaptive variable suspension for more agile handling, ‘Comfort’ to prioritize the smoothest ride possible, or ‘Customize’ to create a personalized drive mode.

Very safe, the new Lexus LX offers the driver big SUV safety, a pre-collision safety system with pedestrian detection,  a lane departure alert with lane keep assist, dynamic radar cruise control, automatic high beam, parking assist and ten airbags are standard.

Take the big LX off-road and the crawl control is designed to increase your confidence when manoeuvring steep inclines and declines.  The system automatically maintains one of three low constant speeds — freeing you up to concentrate on driving without constantly switching from accelerator to brake and back again.  Permanent 4WD has the power sent to all four wheels at all times.  Should any wheel slip, active traction control (A-TRAC) automatically applies brake force while simultaneously providing driving force to the wheels with grip. The result is optimum traction even under the most adverse conditions.  Multi-terrain select lets you choose from five road condition modes –mud & sand, loose rock, mogul, rock, or rock & dirt — then automatically controls slip and grip so that you can tackle even exceptionally rough terrain with greater confidence. A very clever adaptive variable suspension (AVS) intelligently senses road conditions then tailors suspension response for a consistently smooth ride.

The new 2019 Lexus LX 570 features a quad-cam V8 capable of generating 286 kW and 546 Nm of Torque — ideal for stress-free towing even when climbing hills.  The V8 boasts advanced features including Dual Variable Valve-timing with intelligence, however don’t expect amazing fuel economy.  This is a big heavy beast (it weighs in around 2680 kg) and packs the V8 grunt – so simply put you’ll never get much below 14 litres/100km.  As far as sprinting goes, the Lexus LX runs through the 0-100 km/h sprint in round eight seconds.  Should you feel the need you can actually run on to a top speed of 220 km/h.  With its ample low end torque, the new LX 570 lets you tow up 3175 kg with confidence, and while underway the Trailer Sway Control Brake System serves to reduce sway.

The other engine lies in the new Lexus LX 450d and might be more up your alley.  Still V8 but with better fuel economy, the Lexus LX 450d can crack 10 litres/100 km when cruising around.  Linked to a rugged 6-speed automatic transmission, the LX 450d is specifically designed to master both long distance cruising and off-road adventures; hence this would be my pick of the two.  Still offering 200 kW and a whopping 650 Nm of torque you really feel impressed when fully laden and running effortlessly up the hills.

This is right up there as one of the most comfortable ways to see the entire continent.  Luxurious and hugely competent, the 2019 Lexus LX is a winner!
