Jaguar sexy F-Type not only looks hot but it growls like a bear. We’ve been somewhat spoilt by the magnificent V6 and V8 engines that power the F-Type cars, and they really let people know that you’re coming. Just recently, however, the latest F-Type offering comes in the form of a neat 2.0-litre petrol engine that still delivers remarkable performance, so let’s take a closer look.
Known as the Jaguar F-Type P300 (300 stands for the number horsepower), the entry-level F-Type has a 2.0-litre turbo power plant making 221 kW of power and 400 Nm of torque. In this F-Type guise it gives the buyer a chance to buy into the delightful small Jaguar sports car from new while making quite a substantial savings over the V6-powered 283 kW version and V8 offerings.
It might be a smidgeon slower than the V6 and V8 engines, but boy you do have some serious shove even in the base 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four. Linked to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and boasting drive from the rear wheels I rather like this flavour of Jaguar F-Type, for sure. Not only can you scamper through the 0-100 km/h sprint in less than six seconds but the 2.0-litre Turbo Jag roadster can achieve a rather likable combined average fuel consumption of around 7-to-8 litres/100 km. In the process of quick acceleration there is still a delightful exhaust note that rumbles away as the throttle is opened out. In fact, the new Jaguar F-Type P300 comes standard with Adaptive Dynamics and the Switchable Active Sports Exhaust that is the culprit for the loud growls – and this from a four pot! If you select Dynamic mode, the exhaust pipes come alive with that all enthralling symphonic growl; or you can simply press a button on the console to keep the car comfy, but still have the show-off soundtrack bouncing off the hills around you. Goodness that sounds exciting!
There are very few experiences more delightful than skipping through the corners in an open top sports car, and for this reason Jaguar offers the F-Type in both convertible and hard top versions. One of the only draw backs of owning the convertible, that I can see, is that the luggage space in the boot is a rather small 200 litres. Still, that’s still enough for a romantic weekend getaway for two up in the Blue Mountains. Coupe models offer around 407 litres of boot space which is actually very reasonable. One thing you find with the little P300 F-Type is that the steering is precise and accurate along with the chassis being razor sharp. There is a nice balanced grip and plenty of fun to be had in a Jaguar F-Type P300 roadster. Overall length is 4482 mm long, the F-Type is 1923 mm and it sits on gorgeous 19-inch rims that look really attractive.
The 2019 Jaguar F-Type has dated well. This Jaguar roadster was initially launched back in 2013, so six years on the cabin still feels stylish and luxurious on all accounts. Even when regarded as the base F-Type, if only for the smaller engine, the car is packed with equipment. Lovely leather sport seats are powered and heated, and then there is leather trim throughout just like on the other models. Actually any F-Type remains gorgeous to sit inside, and there is even the awesome Meridian 380W sound system on-board. An optional 770 W sound system with 10 speakers and 2 subwoofers is an upgrade that will knock your socks off. It delivers concert hall acoustics using Meridian’s exclusive TrifieldTM technology.
The Touch Pro 10-inch touchscreen has all the latest technology. Connect Pro’s technologies and applications give you the very best in connectivity and convenience. They consist of InControl Apps, Remote Premium, and Pro Services all underpinned by fast 4G Internet connection. Riding in the new F-Type allows you to make and receive calls handsfree, listen to Spotify, wireless charge your phone, enjoy zoned climate control air-conditioning, and enjoy safety features like pedestrian detection and adaptive cruise control. Safety features are right up to the mark with all the latest features being present in a new Jag F-Type.
The Remote Premium app allows you to monitor as well as interact with your F‑TYPE from your smartphone. It gives you information and statistics about your car including fuel level, previous journey details and whether any doors and windows are open or unlocked. If you have Remote Premium, the app allows you to start the engine to pre‑condition the climate2, lock and unlock the car, and locate your F‑TYPE on a map or by using the beep and flash function.
The road is full of adventures in this lovely little 2.0-litre Turbo Jag F-Type; these are awesome to drive and hugely satisfying. Of Course the SVR versions are roguishly fast, but then the 2.0-litre is no slouch at all!
