2019 Ssangyong Tivoli XLV

Well, here is a nice little number from South Korea: the 2019 Ssangyong Tivoli XLV.  Called an SUV wagon, the Tivoli XLV makes short work of carting the gear and the family all over the place.  Looks alone are nice, distinguished and up-market.  Side-on there is some resemblance to what the newer Subaru Forester looks like.  The Tivoli has bold, chunky looks that are appealing on the eye from any angle.

Space in the cabin is excellent for five adults, and when you head out to the boot, the capacity for swallowing stuff is impressive.  A whopping 720 litres with the rear seat still in place puts the XLV Tivoli well ahead of rivals – particularly in this sort of price bracket.  There are some nice cubby spaces for taking smaller items which stop them from rolling about the boot floor when underway, and reaching back to the rear seats from outside the boot is quite a stretch.  Under the boot floor there is also some extra storage space.  Put the split-folding rear seats down and they will lie nice and flat for easy placement of luggage of all sizes and lengths.

Interior design and comfort take a leap forward with the arrival of the new Tivoli models.  The interior brings the best in modern technology and ergonomic design with a warm and luxury look capped off with a chunky D-cut steering wheel that is both practical and great to hold onto.  Back seat passengers are treated to excellent amounts of head and leg room.  There are isofix points for child seats as well.  A couple of cup holders for those in the the rear seats make life refreshing for the two outside occupants.  People in the middle of the back seat won’t be so disappointed for drawing the short straw.  Journeying in the middle is still relatively comfortable and foot space is excellent.

All new Ssangyong Tivoli XLV’s come with 7 airbags, a high-grade steel monocoque structure and a range of electronic safety aids.  AEBS automated braking.  In addition, it also features a Lane Keeping Assist system and High Beam Assist.  Evaluating data from the vehicles on board camera, Forward Collision Warning (FCW) can detect a potential collision with a vehicle, pedestrian or obstacle.  If a collision appears imminent FCW will warn the driver, and if there is insufficient response Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) will intervene with appropriate braking force to stop the vehicle or minimise damage.  Lane Departure Warning (LDW) is designed to alert the driver that the vehicle is about to deviate from a traffic lane.  Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) then helps the car stay toward the centre of the lane by applying a small amount of counter steering force.  HBA detects oncoming vehicles and the rear lights of vehicles in front and dips headlamp high beams accordingly.

As far as models go, the new Ssangyong Tivoli XLV comes with just the one loaded variant.  So, heated front and rear leather seats, a rear parking camera, satellite navigation, keyless start, premium audio, wireless charging, USB points, roof rails, zoned air-conditioning and loads more come as standard.  The Tivoli XLV has an up-market feel to the dash.  You’ll note that the piano trim and gun metal plastics have the dash design looking stylish and elegant.  There is still a bit of hard plastics about the cabin and dash, but that shouldn’t bother most people too much.

Under the bonnet sits just the one option, and a good one too.  The 1.6-litre turbo-diesel makes short work of travel duties, and packs 85 kW of power.  Torque is the key, and this motor has loads of it across the rev range (300 Nm), even from low down, too.  A very nice six-speed automatic awaits Ssangyong Tivoli XLV buyers.  You can also choose between 2WD and an AWD model which is nice.  I would guess the 2WD will be popular.  The Tivoli XLV will only come with a six-speed automatic transmission.  Fuel consumption is rated at 5.9 litres per 100 km for the 2WD, and 6.3 litres/100 km for the AWD – though in the real world these might be higher at times.  A Ssangyong Tivoli also gives the driver the option of Normal, Comfort and Sport via the Smart Steering system which would be Drive-By-Wire technology.

The blend of torque fits nicely with the automatic and Ssangyong Tivoli XLV’s has confident road holding and smooth power delivery.  This is a nice comfortable vehicle to drive.

The new Ssangyong Tivoli XLV is a decent SUV that doesn’t cost a lot of money to buy, and with the comfort and boot space a real XLV strong point, you’ll enjoy some nice motoring in one of these.
