It’s rough having to make a choice between a new Mercedes Benz AMG GT 4-Door Coupe and a Porsche Panamera Turbo. But someone’s got to make it! Both are equally sensational to drive with so much power and control, but in this review we’re looking specifically at what you’ll find in a new 2019 Mercedes Benz AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. The sharky exterior looks awesome with its massive AMG grille and oversized star leading the way at the front. Big, wide and low, the AWD Merc means serious business. Side skirts, big flared rear wheel arches add to the sex appeal, and at the back of the car are slim LED taillights and quad exhaust pipes.
Two varieties of the Mercedes Benz AMG GT 4-Door Coupe are available. It really comes down to engines between the two, so let’s take a look.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4MATIC+ 4-Door Coupe is one impressive beast. You have colossal performance that’s impressive but with a suitability for everyday use that one would associate with a 4/5 seater coupe. It’s elegant and expressive in the way the car looks and drives catching attention with its muscular body language and throaty rumble.
Under the bonnet of the Mercedes Benz AMG GT 53 4MATIC+ 4-Door Coupe is an inline six-cylinder performance engine with 320 kW on tap. Linking this amount of power to the slick AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9-speed transmission it is possible to sprint through the 0-100 km/h in a time of 4.5 seconds. Always urgent, the lusty 520 Nm of torque flows freely on demand. You have ECO start/stop technology, the 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive platform, and a fairly decent fuel consumption average of less than 11 litres/ 100 km, usually.
There are some comprehensively nice features that you’ll enjoy as standard on your new Mercedes Benz AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe. The 20-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels come as standard. Top engine honours goes to the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ 4-Door Coupé. This car has the most powerful engine that Mercedes Benz currently offers on any of its cars. Its dynamic AMG V8 twin turbo engine boasts as much as 900 Nm of torque. It’s a strong engine for any track day – let alone out on the road! With a maximum of 470 kW you’re behind the wheel of thoroughbred. An electronically controlled AMG locking differential enables improved acceleration from corners on all road surfaces. The four-door coupé not only shoots from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds but it will scamper through the quarter mile in less than 12 seconds. This phenomenal acceleration has as much to do with the car’s clever launching technology.
On top of the big list of items that come with the Mercedes Benz AMG GT 53 4MATIC+ 4-Door Coupe, the 63 AMG version gets 21-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels, the active dynamic engine mount, AMG Carbon-fibre trim, EXCLUSIVE nappa / DINAMICA upholstery, heated seats in the front and outer rear, and power closing doors. The carbon-fibre fixed roof, dark-tinted privacy glass from B-pillar to rear and rear-axle steering are nice touches.
Some optional packages are offered for both models: A couple of exterior packages are available for both models. An AMG Night package looks cool with its shoulder line trim strip and window weather strips, inserts in the side sill panels, a trim strip in the front, trim strip in the rear apron and additional elements, and twin tailpipe trim elements.
