Porsche’s new Cayenne Coupe is racier than your standard Cayenne. The sportier looks take in cool-looking 3D Porsche imbedded lettering that’s set into the taillight design which joins in the middle, a more slanted back end, twin spoilers at the back (one on the roof and one on the boot, a rear diffuser, four exhaust outlets, massive gob-smacking 20-inch/21-inch alloys, bulging shoulder lines and a large grille that’s ready to eat you!
Being slightly meaner and more aggressive in its stance also suggests that the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe has breath-taking performance. There is a range of engines to power the Coupe models, some of which are outright muscle cars. Porsche initially will offer the 2020 Cayenne coupe with three engines—a 250 kW turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6, a 324 kW twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6, and a 404 kW twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8. Just think about the 3.9 second 0-100 km/h sprint time of the twin-turbo V8!
Also two Hybrid versions will be coming available as well. The new Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe boasts a 340 kW power rating with a top speed of 253 km/h, while the other is called the Porsche Cayenne SE Hybrid Coupe with stunning 500 kW muscle and a top speed just shy of 300 km/h. The sprint from 0-100 km/h can be completed in just 3.8 seconds. They do feel a little weightier than the other cars – that’s because they are.
Simple and luxurious, the Porsche Cayenne Coupe has a delightful interior. The dash-work has a simple aerodynamic flow, up-to-the-minute infotainment technology and a whopping big 12-inch central touchscreen with premium graphics as standard – got to keep up with the Benz alternative! Once in the cockpit, you are inside what is, perhaps, the sportiest driving position that you’ll experience in an SUV. It’s essentially a jacked up 911 experience and it just feels exciting.
Leather everything, well sort of – by which I mean the surfaces that aren’t are still premium materials, and you even get cool tartan fabric inserts in the luxury sport seats if you want. Soft touch stuff, the best build quality, gorgeous steering wheel rims, damped hand holders and a partial digital driver’s display are all nice things. Dual-zone climate control ensures that both the front and rear occupants get the best air quality and comfort.
Top of the line models get an 18-way electronic driver’s seat, a Bose Surround sound system, heated seats front and rear, and adaptive air suspension. All models get plenty of leeway for including various options to suit you and your budget. There is even a carbon fibre package with a carbon fibre roof.
Now, rear seat passengers have a roomy seating position – thanks to Porsche lowering the rear seat height slightly due to the raking Coupe roofline. The Coupe Cayenne comes with just the two seats in the rear, so its special as well as roomy – loads of leg room included. You can get three seats, if you want to. The three rear seats are split-folding, and there is a foldable middle section for two seat versions – should you require lengthier items to be loaded on-board.
A powered tailgate lets you into the sizable luggage space, though it’s not quite as large as the standard Cayenne models without the Coupe roofline. A 12V socket and luggage nets are useful boot features, as well as a storage space under the floor. Front and rear parking sensors are standard features – very useful when manoeuvring around city streets and large parking buildings. You can also get Park Assist. Apple CarPlay is standard.
Head out on the road and the standard adaptive suspension works a treat, and it tightens things right up in Sport/Track modes should you want to go nuts! Out on the road even the base model is a quick machine on any road and on any surface. Cayenne Coupes are a joy to drive, and they are just as happy plodding along in slow traffic as they are whipping through the corners on country roads. AWD ensures that there is always plenty of grip to match the quick and responsive steering. Porsche braking is phenomenal, making the complete Cayenne Coupe package as sporty-an-SUV drive as you’ll get anywhere.
