Here’s another top product from Toyota: the 2020 Toyota Camry. These sedans do everything well; and since 2006 they have been designed with loads more style, particularly with the car’s exterior artistry. They are a talented team at Toyota, and they are a team of people that dependably get the basics right to make ownership of their automotive products a happy experience for many, many owners over many miles. Since production began back in the nineties the Toyota Camry has always excelled in reliability, with constant reports of owners doing in excess of 300,000 km without any major mechanical issues at all. So: better style, better technology, better luxury and better safety are some of the features that make the new 2020 Camry models very desirable.
Premium Hybrid models sit on the larger 18-inch alloys, and they fill out the arches very nicely. They also get LED fog lights and LED indicators. Base Camry petrol only models get the standard 17-inchers which look pretty nice, anyways. V6 Camrys sit on 19-inch rubber. The front of the new Camry is quite a sleek design with its inward flow of angular lines nicely in keeping with an arrowhead.
Slip into the comfortable Camry interior and you’ll find the dash styling has snazzy lines that are unique and a bit different from other mainstream cars. Curvy lines and pleasant shaping looks good on the dash, and it remains a decent design with the switchgear in all the right places for easy ergonomics – especially for the driver. Quality has taken another step forward his year – more noticeable on the premium models where you’ll find nice soft touch leather materials on the dash and upper doors as well as some cool coloured trims with a metallic finish.
Driver comfort is excellent, and the steering wheel comes with electronic adjustment for reach and rake. You should find the new Camry very comfortable for longer journeys, too. Both of the front seats are electronically adjustable. As far as practicality goes the Toyota Camry is very practical and offers plenty of storage throughout the cabin for bottles, cups, lipsticks, sunglasses, chip packets, books, mobile phones, sweets, tissues, cables and the list goes on. Charging points are handy for accessory equipment and are located in the cabin front and rear.
For those in the rear seats there is heaps of room for leggy, tall folk, and the seats also recline. Head room is good, so if you need a roomy sedan make sure you check out the 2020 Toyota Camry which is great for carrying five adults on long trips. A rear seat centre arm rest also houses cup holders and there are charging points and storage for mobile devices. Kid seats are easy to get in and out of the wide opening rear doors, and isofix points are standard.
Boot space for the large sedan is copious (524 litres and bigger than a Mondeo), allowing for you to carry plenty of luggage on the trip away. The loading gap is nice and wide, making life easy for getting large suitcases in and out of the boot. You can also fold the split-folding rear seats down to fit more gear inside – particularly handy if you want to carry a bike, skis, surf board or the like.
One really cool feature for the new Camry is a wireless charging pad for the phone which can then be shifted forward and out of sight so that the phone won’t distract you while you’re driving – excellent. Something else that is pretty contemporary is the moisturising air-conditioning system – yes you heard that right, the car sends ions through the system that collect water droplets on the way to keep your skin looking healthier and younger. Won’t the ladies love that!
The infotainment system might be a little smaller than some of its rivals but it is well laid out and has easy, user-friendly buttons alongside the touchscreen to get you through to other apps quickly. Also, you have the option of voice commands, and simple, yet effective graphics are part of the likable Camry way of life
Base model Toyota Camry sedans come well-equipped with a nice infotainment system, good quality audio sound for musos, parking sensors, a reverse camera, automated cruise control, keyless entry, lane assist, satellite navigation, another digital screen between the crystal clear analogue dials and dual-zone climate control among some of the notable features.
Range topping Toyota Camrys get lovely heated leather seats, an auto dimming rear-view mirror, rear-cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring and snazzier trimming inside the cabin.
Out on the road the new Toyota Camry is agile and comfortable, feeling safe and secure on all road surfaces – perfect for the everyday driver who likes to get a move on every now and then. The Sport models have an excellent chassis for those who like to get things done fast. Braking bites well and will bring the car to a speedy halt in no time at all. City driving is a breeze in a new Camry with its excellent all-round visibility The hybrid engine is arguably the most efficient you will find in terms of delivering engine power to the road without wasting it anywhere in the entire set-up. You’ll also find the added soundproofing aids the car’s quiet progression – particularly muting outside noises very well.
The new Camry engine uses a 2.5-litre petrol engine that is mated to an electric motor, and this is known as a hybrid system which also emits very low CO2 emissions – excellent. It makes 160 kW flat out, delivers smooth powerful torque throughout the engine revolution range and will scamper through the 0-100 km/h dash in a little over 8 seconds. Pulling out and passing can be done with plenty of zip, as the CVT quickly transfers the engine’s power and puts it out there on the road. Economy is very good, – class-leading in fact.
Petrol V6 with 8-speed automatic models come with around 200 kW and are swift cars with 0-100 km/h sprint times less than 7 seconds. The 2.5L Dual VVT-i 4-cylinder petrol engine models come with around 130 kW and use an excellent, smooth six-speed automatic gearbox. Their peppy engine response, efficiency and smooth refinement are superb.
Grab yourself one of these fine Toyota Camry sedans and you’ll also get a 5 year/unlimited km warranty and a car with five-star safety credentials. The chances are you’ll fall in love with one of these cars or it will be your familiar upgrade because you like the Camry so much.
