Supercars and fast cars can capture one’s imagination and find that childlike excitement that any driving enthusiast enjoys. The types of thrills offered by cars like the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 are hard to replicate anywhere else, however, with Porsche, even track cars can remain quite civilized as a daily driver. Made for the track but at home on the road, the new 911 GT3 is a darling.
Cars like the 911 GT3 are built for fast lap times on a track. This new 911 GT3 weighs in at just 1418 kg in manual guise and 1435 kg for the automatic. These two figures are quite remarkable, and its largely because there’s plenty of lightweight carbon fibre body parts incorporated into the design. The bonnet, engine cover and rear wing are carbon fibre, and you can even pay for the roof to come in the lightweight material.
Keeping in mind that your GT3 is built for the track, you won’t find an incredibly long list of frills on the comfort and entertainment list. The crafted racing seats do an amazing job of holding you tight through insane cornering speeds while giving you excellent support. The 2021 Porsche 911 GT3 still gets an infotainment system, however, and air conditioning is a loved feature for a hot race day.
To look at, the 2022 911 GT3 gets a completely redesigned front bumper with large air intakes that stretches the breadth of the car’s nose. There are two big vents on the bonnet now, and the result is a meaner looking 911 and I like it! The rear features a huge wing designed for maximum downforce on the rear as it hunkers down through fast cornering. An extra ducktail spoiler sits underneath the huge wing, and there is even a rear diffuser, too; Porsche are really making a serious statement about how quick this car handles.
The familiar GT3 dual-tip exhaust sits centrally under the rear bumper, and a striking LED taillight line is a strip running the breadth of the 911 GT3’s rump – simply awesome. At the front of the car you’ll find 20-inch rubber is standard, while at the rear the car sits on 21-inch rims. GT3 cars are RWD only; Porsche keeping AWD for the 911 Turbo models.
So, the 2021 Porsche 911 GT3 uses a naturally aspirated engine with 380 kW of power and 470 Nm of torque. This race-focused machine can be bought with an optional Clubsport pack, can be had with the slick and faster seven-speed PDK automatic sports shifter but comes standard with the six-speed manual gearbox.
A standard new Porsche 911 GT3 can oust the 0-100 km/h dash out of the way in around 3.4 seconds and will run on to a top speed of well passed 300 km/h. There will also be a more powerful naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six engine found in the 911 GT3 RS that will produce more than 380 kW, but an AWD Porsche 911 Turbo S will still likely out accelerate it. However, the GT3’s track-focused suspension should make it quicker through the corners.
Likely to be available in 2022, the Porsche 911 GT3 models will include the:
