The stunning new Peugeot 5008 GT SUV is a clever design. With this new model, Peugeot can draw on buyers who like both MPV or SUV type vehicles. Those who think MPVs are a bit ‘Mumsy’ will like the fact that the cool looks of the new 5008 GT are SUV-ish on the outside and then much more MPV-ish on the inside. Let’s face it, SUVs are cool and MPVs are a bit not-so-cool, particularly when you’re out for a night on the town or cruising across town on the school run. This is the cool car for all you people who need to shuffle people from A-to-B in style. The 2021 Peugeot 5008 GT has loads of space and is comfortable to ride in.
The new 5008 GT SUV is available with a 1.6-litre Turbo ULP motor that runs with a 6-speed automatic for getting the power down on the road via its FWD design. For a bit lustier torque, there is also a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel that uses an 8-speed automatic and FWD. The result is a really decent drive. You’ll notice that the 1.6 Turbo has plenty of snap and can easily respond to the need of a quick burst of acceleration to fly passed slower moving traffic. The power and torque figures for the 1.6 are 121 kW and 240 Nm, while the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel puts out 131 kW and 400 Nm. Both can crack through the 0-100 km/h dash in a little under 10 seconds. Economy is good and you should easily get around 40 mpg (5.8 litres/100 km) out on the open road. For a more relaxed ride, the turbo-diesel is superb. It can eat up the miles effortlessly and get even more amazing fuel economy stats.
The 2021 Peugeot 5008 GT SUV has 5 doors and seven spacious seats. It comes with a 5-star ANCAP safety rating, so is an excellent buy for the growing family. What’s it competing against? Peugeot’s seven-seat, mid-size 5008 SUV competes directly with Honda’s CR-V, Mitsubishi’s Outlander, a Skoda Kodiaq and Nissan’s X-Trail.
I love the new updated styling that the 2021 5008 has got. The vertical LED DRLs are striking, while the flowing lines and the blending of its roomy SUV shape with Peugeot’s artistic flare really has produced an incredibly attractive vehicle. It is the best-looking mid-size SUV in my opinion. And the good looks and great vibes don’t disappear the moment you open the door, because inside the new 5008 is a world of luxury and style. With its newly revised styling, the interior is one of the nicest on the market. Everything feels well put together, there is a premium atmosphere about the cabin and it boasts good looks and plenty of top technology. Peugeot’s latest i-Cockpit looks really cool and, if you’re not familiar with Peugeot’s unique digital driver’s display positioned higher than the steering wheel, you need to try it out before thinking that ‘that’s a bit weird’. It works tremendously well and ensures that your eyes don’t need to stray far off the upcoming road as you check your speed, vital stats and navigation. I love it!
The new digital driver’s display has a 3D effect, and the driver also gets a new chunky heated steering wheel to hold onto. In the centre of the dash is a 10-inch multi-connected central touchscreen. If you want to, you can select multiple screen displays and customizable infotainment presentations. The advanced i-cockpit package also get Voice Control with natural speech recognition. The i-Toggles gain you direct access to the touchscreens different functions – a handy feature that’s easy to use.
Standard equipment on a 2021 Peugeot 5008 GT SUV includes satellite navigation, rear side-window blinds and a powered tailgate; while the safety list is long and includes things like high- and low- speed autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, actively-assisted blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning.
The 5008’s practicality and function all come in a stylish package. Up to 34 litres of storage space is available around the driver and front passenger. Wireless phone connection/charging makes keeping in touch and entertained a breeze. A premium Focal HiFi Sound system rocks with exceptionally clear audio available for all to enjoy. The interior has an array of ambient lighting functions, and it’s fun that you can alter and customize the way your new 5008 GT SUV looks and feels at night. With as much as 591-litres behind the middle row seats (third row folded flat) and a set of roof rails you’re not going to be short of cargo carrying ability. With seven on-board the boot space is small (less than 200 litres) but then you’re shifting bodies not objects. When all the rear seats are folded down flat you can get up to a whopping 2042 litre capacity.
Middle row occupants can be tall or lanky and yet still feel the love thanks to the flat floor and copious amounts of leg and head space. All three seats in the second row are individual, reclining and sliding as each occupant desires; now how good is that! Back in the third row, space does retract for an adult sized frame but you’ll be surprised at how well it accommodates them – at least for shorter journeys.
You’ve probably guessed that I’m quite a Peugeot 5008 GT SUV fan; and yes I am. I think it’s a brilliant car and should be one to consider if you are in the need of a stylish people mover come SUV. The engines are superb, the ride excellent and the design awesome.
