If you’ve heard of the BMW 5-Series or Mercedes Benz E-Class, then I’m sure you’ll be well aware of the latest Audi A6 that’s arrived here in Australia. These three Germans have been battling head-to-head for years, and if you’re on the lookout for a new one of these sorts of luxury, sports cars then Private Fleet are here to help you get the best deal.
Distinctive it is, the 2019 Audi A6 has a massive grille on its nose with the four interlocked rings centred right, smack, bang in the middle as if to say: just in case you didn’t notice, I am an Audi! The A6 looks quite nice in my book. Classy, streamlined, luxurious and stacked to the hilt with all the latest infotainment and safety features you’ll likely need.
This new Audi A6 is a good car, particularly if you don’t need to fork out more money for the larger A8. All the right goodies are inside a new A6, so you won’t be disappointed. Standard versions of the A6 are available, while the ‘S-Line’ versions are what I would call the spunkier, sportier drives. Styling cues for the ‘S-Line’ include a more pronounced air dam at the front, 19-inch alloys, a lower ride height and an insert lower down in the rear bumper.
Even on the inside of the new Audi A6 the car has all the beauty of the bigger A8. Cabin quality and comfort are superb, with pretty much all surfaces covered with premium materials. The top of the dash has stitched leather, and the door inserts and the front occupant centre armrest are covered in a premium leather trim. Chrome and other metallic finishes give richness to the new A6 interior, while the central touchscreen display is superbly styled and so classy with its HD graphics.
Loads of adjustment in the steering column and driver’s seat makes it very easy to get comfortable, even if you are very tall. Head room is great. Long legs are also catered for by an extendable seat cushion underneath the driver’s thighs. Rear seat passengers who may be six foot or over need not feel daunted about travelling long distances in the A6, because there is good leg and head room for big lads in the back. In actual fact, rear seat space is better than the other main German rivals. Isofix anchor points are available in the front and rear for small children.
Boot space is a useful 530 litres with the rear seats in place, and there are tether points, storage compartments and a 12 V socket in the boot. If you have skis, there is a central rear seat mid-section that can be folded forward to accommodate them via the boot. The rear seats are split folding, and they fold down nice and flat for great cargo carrying capability, should you need to.
Infotainment systems don’t get much better than what you’ll find in any new premium Audi model. The latest Audi A6 doesn’t disappoint. You can watch the latest news feeds, listen to music on Spotify, check out the best routes to get to work via sat nav, make hands-free phone calls, use the wireless Smartphone connection and charging features, and more. The virtual cockpit is a really nice digital display screen behind the steering wheel for the driver to check the vehicle’s important data stats, speed, engine revs and even follow the satellite navigation via this display screen as well. Audi’s HD graphics are very nice.
The lower touchscreen displays features like climate control, air flow, heating or cooling the seats. Steering wheel controls are there for systems like the car’s audio, volume, voice control, phone connections, digital driver display controls and cruise control. Other nice items you’ll find on any new Audi A6 are things like: lovely leather seating, cup-holders, great door storage for bottles, a big glovebox, premium audio sound, USB connections, 12 V points, a reversing camera with an HD display, automatic headlamps, cornering headlights, remote car access and locking via your Smartphone, LED reading lights in front and rear, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, crash avoidance technology, park assist technology, and heated seats.
Sport models add more side bolstering to the front seats, a sports steering wheel and some other interior trim features to set these models apart. There are other optional packages like a technology pack which adds a 10-inch touchscreen instead of the standard 8-incher. The Touring Pack adds features like the latest Lane Assist. High spec cars also have a rear seat climate control system. Some A6 models also offer driving mode features and adaptive suspensions. There is also a rear wheel steering option which makes turning the big car a piece of cake in tight city situations. The turning circle with this feature decreases dramatically.
Engines at present come down to the 2.0-litre TFSI petrol unit that can sprint through the 0-100 km/h in six seconds and it uses a nice seven-speed sport automatic. And the other engine is a 3.0-litre petrol that can get through the same dash in around five seconds and is linked to the same seven-speed sports auto gearbox.
Any of the new 2019 Audi A6 cars ride beautifully even in standard guise. S-Line models have the firmer suspensions, but still do an alright job of soaking up the bumps. They are all AWD versions of the new Audi A6 here in Australia – hence the name Quattro. Diesel and FWD models are available overseas so I’m not quite sure why we haven’t got them here. The new Audi A6 is a superb driver’s car that can happily tackle the corners with ease, and on the open road the car remains very secure and surefooted.
I could happily live with one of these; a true driver’s car with all the luxury and nice infotainment you’ll require. Do take a look.
