2024 BMW M2 Coupe

2024 BMW M2 Coupe in powder blue

If you asked me what the most exciting car I’ve reviewed so far this year would be, I would have to rate the new BMW M2 Coupe as the one.  It’s packed with power and stacked with BMW’s awesome engineering skills, and it simply flies along any road as quickly as you’d like it to.  The square lines BMW has used in the car’s exterior details are a new look that gives this next-generation M2 a clear direction into the future.  The car is otherwise low-profile in its stance, and the low centre of gravity makes for some extraordinary handling ability.

For me, the back end of the new M2 Coupe looks just right.  The taillights are set sweetly into the corners, and the distance along a horizontal line between them seems longer than before.  Maybe it’s the slimmer rear bumper that aids this visual appearance.  And then those awesome-looking quad exhaust tips take up most of the space underneath the bumper perfectly.  And, at a three-quarter angle looking from the rear of the car and down the side, those large rear wheel arches and stonking big side skirts fits the M2 performance brief entirely.

The BMW M2 Coupe for 2024 has plenty of new bits under the skin too.  The gearbox is now an eight-speed sports automatic instead of a seven-speed double-clutch unit.  If you’d rather go for the manual shift, then a six-speed manual gearbox is available.  The engine is also even more responsive and feels peppier than before, now being the same twin-turbo inline 3.0-litre motorsport six that BMW also uses in the mighty M4.  For the new M2 Coupe, this engine has been tweaked a little to detune the maximum power down from the M4’s 375 kW to the M2’s 338 kW, while the torque also drops from 650 Nm to 550 Nm, respectively.  But this 2024 BMW M2’s power is well up on the previous M2 model’s 302 kW and 490 Nm.  And yes, the new car is quicker!  The 0–100 km/h sprint is all over in a tad over 4.0 seconds, but where the extra performance really hits home is when you’re wanting to pass slower traffic.  The 2024 BMW M2 Coupe can whip through 80–120 km/h in a mere 2.2 seconds!  This is significantly quicker (well, 0.4 seconds faster) than the outgoing model.  The top speed has been limited to 250 km/h.

You have various driving modes you can choose.  Normal, Track, and Sport modes are all there, and the new M2 Coupe makes for a relaxed and delightfully swift tourer.  It’s a perfect car if you want to blast down the Pacific Coast to get away for a long weekend up in the beautiful Hunter Valley region for just the two of you.  A fun feature of the new car is the button for the exhaust flaps, which, when pressed, changes between the muted thunder to a raucous and addictive angry growl.  Love it!

Inside the 2024 BMW M2 Coupe, the interior is modern, and the front seats are comfortable, supportive, electronically adjustable and heated.  The digital driver’s display morphs into the infotainment screen as you head along the snazzy bit of glassy architecture to the central dash area.  It is hard to find any new car these days that isn’t able to be connected to the internet in some way.  The BMW M2 Coupe can connect to your phone wirelessly via sim preparation, and you phone can also be wirelessly charged.  Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard features, so your own tastes in music can be pumped through the impressive premium 16-speaker sound system.  Other nice features that come as standard are multicolour ambient lighting adjustment, active cruise control, a heads-up display, DAB+ digital radio, park assist, and two-zone climate control.

As standard, the new BMW M2 Coupe has a pretty decent bit of kit, but there are more optional extras or option packs you can add for exclusivity.  Things like other 19- and 20-inch alloy wheel designs, BMW’s individual paintwork, M compound brakes with red high-gloss callipers, and other special leather interiors with Vernasca’ Black with exclusive highlights or Leather ‘Vernasca’ Cognac with decor stitching all make the 2024 M2 Coupe’s interior even more dashing with a special M carbon fibre experience and an exterior with special metallic paint.

This is a car that demands to be driven and enjoyed.  The 2024 BMW M2 is full excitement on four wheels.
