Hot performance doesn’t get much more exhilarating than with BMW’s M models. The latest M3 versions are available, so, for 2024, why not treat yourself to an M3 CS or M3 Wagon? There is, of course, the more traditional M3 Sedan for those who like the 4-door looks and the car’s practicality. Essentially, when it comes down to sheer excitement and show-stopping performance, all M3 versions are alike. They all crack the whip and know how to boogie!
Take a squiz under the bonnet of any of the new BMW M3s, and the grunt all comes from Twin-Turbo 3.0-litre muscle. Eight-speed gearing and the choice of AWD or RWD come with the Competion model, whereas the CS is all out AWD, 8-speed warfare, and light weight all in the one package. Base model BMW M3 Sedans run with the still very slick 6-speed gearbox and RWD, running through the 0-100 km/h sprint in around 4 seconds. CS versions will do the same in a smidgeon over 3 seconds!
The 2024 BMW M3 Sedans, M4 Coupes, and M3 Wagons all have dramatic looks with their brand new tweaked vertically oriented grille. This defines the latest RWD and AWD 3.0-litre TT 6-cylinder G80 Series M cars. 2024 BMW M3s come in a regular 353 kW/550 Nm guise, or in a high-output 375 kW/650 Nm M3 Competition guise – the former version running with a 6-speed manual transmission, and the latter – because the manual gearbox is limited to 550 Nm of torque– an eight-speed automatic. Unless you have removed the limiter or opted for the M Drive Professional package, all 2024 M3 versions are governed to 250 km/h.
If you want the extra practicality of the new BMW M3 Touring Wagon, then you’re not losing out on any power. The 2024 BMW M3 Touring Wagon comes in the Competition spec, so you get the option of RWD or AWD to go with your 8-speed automatic gearbox and 375 kW/650 Nm. You also get 500 litres of boot space with the rear seats up, stretching to 1510 litres with the rear seats folded flat. Should your Great Dane want to travel in Avante style, then the Touring Wagon will be the way forward.
All new BMW 3 Series cars perform very well in crash tests, and they feel really well bolted together. In addition to the usual suite of comfort and driver aids that all new M3 variants get, there are also notable features like the power-adjustable M sport seats, Merino leather trim, a Driving Assistant Professional suite that includes steering and lane control assist, active cruise control, cross traffic warning (front and rear), lane departure and even lane change warning functions. Aside from the subjective exterior and interior styling selections, ticking the M Drive Professional package has you looking at your on-board drift analyser and lap timer, while also being able to unlock a higher top speed. M3s are perfect road and track day stars.
You are seated inside a quality environment, with the driver’s and front seat occupants enjoying full electric adjustment. The seat material is a lovely leather, and you get interior illumination, ambient interior lighting, keyless start, a starter button, gear shifters on the steering wheel, active cruise control, a superb sound system with digital radio, Heads-up display, a decent navigation system, Android Auto and/or Apple CarPlay, wireless Smartphone connection and charging, and even an assisted self-parking system. The Laser/LED headlights are crackingly good for night driving.
If the comparison between an Audi RS4, an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, or a BMW M3 came down to the car with the most complicated driver’s mode, then the new M3 would win hands down with its huge number of driving modes, selections, and adaptions.
2024 BMW M3s will thrill you on the road or on the track, and the M3’s Base model can transform into a surprisingly comfortable long-mile eater, cruising the highway effortlessly for hours on end in the daytime and long into the night.
