Chery is the name of the latest automotive manufacturer to come from China. Making inroads into the global market should be a bit of a breeze, as the Chery J11 SUV offers superior value for money and a full three year/100,000 kilometre warranty.
Pitching in at near 4.3 metres in length, the distance end to end is matched with an equally healthy 1.77 metre width. Room inside the Chery J11 is, therefore, pretty handy, and seating offers plenty of room for the feet, legs, shoulders and heads. Equipped with leather seats, the Chery J11 looks and feels appealing, which gives the cabin atmosphere all-encompassing a high degree of sumptuousness. Grey interior colours have various shades, while the uncluttered dash design is easy on the eye and requires a laymen’s level of understanding to utilise it.
You can expect plenty of kit. The Chery J11 offers all the goodies that cars, usually, a lot dearer supply. A decent air-conditioning unit works well to control the temperature inside to the level you desire. An adjustable steering column creates an easy find for driving comfort. The four-speaker sound system is grunty and happy to play loud music with clarity all day long. A bit of Johnny Farnham and Kylie Minogue should tickle the ears nicely. You’ll make good use of the copious amount of handy storage space. There is a sizeable glovebox, a sunglass holder, centre console, front door storage pockets, seat pockets and cup holders. Electric windows and mirrors adds to the easy-to-use nature of the Chery J11. The rear cargo blind, 60/40 split folding rear seats and mudflaps are useful everyday features that will make your Chery J11 pleasant to live with.
You feel safe inside the SUV-styled Chery J11. A solid feel on the road and plenty of grip provide an assertive driving stance. Big 16-inch tyres combine with the sturdy chassis to cope manfully on all road surfaces. Yes… the Chery J11 has EBD and ABS, while disc brakes all-round make for excellent stopping ability. Airbags are standard in the front of the Chery J11. An engine immobiliser and cruise control system are standard on both Chery J11 models. What sets the two Chery J11 models apart is the choice of transmission. For those who like the feel of a five-speed manual will opt for the manual version, while the ones who like the gears changed for them will appreciate the smooth four-speed automatic.
Plenty of power comes from the 2.0-litre petrol power plant, and with a maximum of 102 kW at 5750 rpm and 182 Nm between 4300–4500 rpm you get along quite nicely, indeed. It’s no sports car but it was never intended to be so. There is plenty of accessible grunt for the everyday driving style.
Not unlike a Land Cruiser, the Chery J11 has a bold, rounded appearance that is pleasant enough on the eye. A strong focal point is the J11’s headlights. A clean taillight design, and round red reflectors set into the rear bumper incorporate a nice balanced design. The spare wheel is located on the fifth door at the rear, and the colour coded wheel case keeps the finish looking nice. Not having the tyre underneath the SUV or inside the luggage area means that ground clearance is not impaired nor the luggage space compromised.
