Having to write up the latest Chrysler 300 is no disappointment. Often underrated and overlooked by buyers sold on luxury German brands like BMW, Mercedes and Audi, or even other prestigious marques from Ford, Holden, Jaguar, Citroen, Lexus, Infiniti and Volvo, the Chrysler 300 has an aura about it that has lasted since its recent inception in 2005. Now updated and even more luxurious and refined, the 2019 Chrysler 300 is a very desirable car. Let’s take a closer look.
To get yourself into one of these fine looking, brand new sedans, you will spend somewhere in the vicinity of 60-70k. And what you get is a spacious, extremely comfortable and quick luxury car with loads of street kudos. The entry level model is known as the Chrysler 300C, but entry means ultimate luxury anyway, and with beautifully crafted seats and plenty of leg and head room, this is a car that eats up the miles in comfort. What a great cruiser for our Aussie roads, and if you’re missing the Ford Fairmont Ghia’s big space, big comfort and big power, then the Chrysler 300C would have to be one of the closest vehicles that matches this sort of ride as a great replacement.
Power for the Chrysler 300C comes from the familiar 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 petrol engine that has served Chrysler very well. Boasting 210 kW of power and 340 Nm of torque the Chrysler 300C is capable of a sprint from 0-100 km/h in around 7.7 seconds. A top speed of 240 km/h can be reached on the right roads, while all this performance is delivered through a very smooth 8-speed automatic gearbox with a Rotary E-Shift via the rear wheels. Hugely rewarding to drive, the 300C has a ride quality that delivers smooth comfort and decent poise. Long distances can be covered effortlessly, quietly and in comfort.
What do you get in a Chrysler 300C package? Well for starters you get that distinctive 300 shape sitting on 20-inch alloy wheels. The leather seats that can be heated or cooled are superbly comfortable and ready for long hauls. These are also electronically adjustable. At the centre of the dash is the updated 8.4-inch touchscreen that has all the latest software and has nice HD graphics. Satellite navigation and a nine-speaker alpine audio system deliver great guidance and excellent sound clarity. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard features, so it’s easy to listen to all your favourite music while on the road. Dual-zone climate control is standard.
The driver gets a new 7-inch instrument cluster display for all the necessary information and data. It is easy to get comfortable behind the wheel of a new Chrysler 300 because there is loads of space and superb adjustability in the driver’s seat and steering wheel.
Other nice 300C features are electric windows, remote keyless entry, adaptive Bi-Xenon headlights, seven airbags, a reverse parking camera, and front and rear parking sensors. A suite of available safety assistance technology includes features like adaptive cruise control with emergency stop, blind spot monitoring, full speed forward collision warning (autonomous emergency braking) and lane departure warning. This is a car worthy of being called Chrysler’s flagship.
If you love the distinctive Chrysler sedan but want loads of power added into your drive, then the 2019 Chrysler 300 SRT will be your go to model. Kitted with an SRT tuned chassis, Bilstein shocks and Brembo brakes, this is one mean cruiser. Looking hot on striking 20-inch alloys and a slightly lower ride height, the Chrysler 300 SRT looks and means business. The standard SRT performance cloth seats are awesome to look at and deliver great support. There is no doubt that the sportier SRT interior detailing is seasoned for those who love the fast lane. The SRT cabin is the perfect balance of luxurious appointments and performance-focused detailing and ergonomics. Aggressively bolstered SRT seating keeps occupants firmly in place and comfortable, and the leather-wrapped flat-bottom SRT steering wheel provides drivers with that extra sportiness. Again, if you’re missing the FPV Falcons then the 300 SRT could be your go to vehicle.
The new Chrysler 300 SRT has been tweaked to deliver superb steering response and tight handling and control. The Brembo high performance brakes bite hard and can stop this sizable sport’s luxury sedan in no time at all. A rear limited slip differential is a nice addition for this RWD SRT bruiser because under the hood is a big Hemi V8. The sports exhaust system keeps the engine running strong and gives a wonderful growl when under power.
Adding to the sporty Chrysler 300 SRT flavour is a nice steering wheel paddle shift set up for those who like to take full control of the huge power on tap. When you enter the SRT model it is instantly evident that you have boarded one especially quick machine. Things like the 300 km/h speedometer and launch control give a hint of what breathes underneath the SRT skin.
Still, there are all the lovely luxury items you’ll want in an SRT. Loads of options for interior and exterior colours and trims are sure to give you a really nice SRT suited to your tastes. The combination of comfort, the latest 8.4-inch touchscreen, satellite navigation, Apple Carplay, Android auto, configurable drive modes, dual-zone climate control, hands-free phone, big power and more leave you impressed and satisfied at the end of your Chrysler 300 drive.
To experience the quickest sprint times you will need to engage the Chrysler 300 SRT’s launch control function. Big power is ready and waiting and even the sound of the V8 gives you goose bumps! A whopping 350 kW of power marries with 637 Nm of torque to deliver one heck of a great drive. The legendary 6.4-litre HEMI V8 delivers belligerent acceleration and straight-line performance that belies the sophisticated luxury and comfort of the Chrysler 300’s style. The SRT launch control system is carefully calibrated to mitigate wheel spin during launch situations, and this improves straight-line acceleration. Get a load of the 0-100 km/h sprint time! You can get into naughtiness territory well under five seconds. On the right piece of road the SRT has a top speed of 282 km/h. You won’t be late to those board room meetings in this one.
All new Chrysler 300 sedans get integrated voice command with Bluetooth XRB. Steering wheel mounted audio controls, a media hub with two USB points and one AUX point for front occupants. In the rear seats, passengers will enjoy heaps of comfort and space, one AUX point, 2 USB points, and a 12V power outlet.
There are some really nice optional packages available. Chrysler 300C buyers can look at the Sun and Sound Package with its dual-pane panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon audio group 19 sound system, Harman Kardon Greenedge speakers with 825 W, and a Harman Kardon greenedge amplifier. This is the ultimate luxury in sound entertainment.
Options for the SRT models include the Laguna Leather seating package with Laguna Luxury performance leather trim. A Luxury Package includes a dual-pane panoramic sunroof and a nice set of luxury front and rear floor mats.
The latest 2019 Chrysler 300 sedans are superb cars for the open road, but when you do need to head into town these cars are truly eye-catching and offer their owner loads of road presence. So if you’re looking for a premium luxury car with outstanding power and torque, these are highly recommended sedans, and they happen to be a lot cheaper to buy new than any German equivalent model (BMW, Audi, Mercedes) and yet are just as nice. It’s a bit of a steal really, so I can’t keep the secret!
