Just loving life and the whole idea of getting out and exploring the different landscapes and natural scenes we can discover becomes within easy reach when travelling in Holden’s new Tourer. From the sea to the Blue Mountain range, from the desert to the abundant birdlife in our out-there lakes, we’ve all got to get out there and experience it. If you’re into a bit of outdoor adventure, why not sling on the mountain bike for an even bigger buzz. In order for us to get to some of these extra-special natural environments we need a special mode of transport; and if you’re anything like me and like to take yourself places at your own leisure, then you’re going to need the right vehicle for the job. Holden has a new vehicle which fits this sort of lifestyle, as long as serious off-road work isn’t on the agenda.
You’re probably well aware of the new Commodore that’s now on sale in Australia for 2018. To cater to a greater buyer pool, the latest Commodore wagon can be purchased with AWD and a taller ride height – much in the same vein as a Subaru Outback or Volvo Cross Country wagon. Holden’s new Commodore Tourer has what it takes to take you on an exciting adventure. The 2018 Holden Commodore Tourer all-wheel-drive makes journeys easier, safer, and bursting with possibilities. Hook your bike onto the back of this wagon, load up your luggage and be in awe of how this Holden can eat up the miles in abundant comfort and style.
One of the noticeable features of the new AWD Commodore Tourer is the smooth ride and excellent grip. It doesn’t matter about the road surface or condition, the new Tourer is well sorted and very capable. Pushed through the corners the Commodore Tourer is a very tidy handler, and there is loads of power to accelerate quickly from any legal road speed (and beyond). The V6 provides 235 kW of power and a maximum of 381 Nm of torque in an entertaining and convincing fashion. The big high-riding wagon is a fantastic tourer that is quiet and refined even over dirt roads. Linked to the new 9-speed automatic, the Commodore Tourer has super-smooth gear changes and effectively low fuel consumption for a big V6. On some of the combined runs you should find 9 litres/100 km is well within reach.
Inside the Commodore Tourer you can stretch out and enjoy plenty of rear seat leg room in true Commodore style. Soft, plush interiors are modern and right up-to-date with all the interior technology techie addicts love. You’ll find touch-free phone communications, stylish touch screens in the centre dash, beautiful surround sound audio, zoned air-conditioning and premium driver assistance features like Lane Assist and Emergency Braking. Attractive leather seat trim, heated front seats, wireless phone charging, an 8.0-inch colour touch-screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone projection, satellite-navigation, digital radio and a hands-free power tailgate make for some luxury features.
Holden Commodore Tourer Calais-V models are the flagship variants, and you get 20-inch wheels, adaptive LED Matrix headlights, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, Bose premium audio, a massaging driver’s seat with power-adjustable bolsters, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and flappy paddles for the auto – just some of the excellent features to make the drive superbly comfortable and pleasant for all occupants.
These new Holden Commodores are very safe. Boasting the full five-star safety equipment, this is a proven safety package that incorporates multiple airbags throughout the cabin, a reinforced safety cage and numerous accident avoidance technologies. Big meaty ABS brakes bite hard and effectively for superb stopping power. Holden Commodore Tourers feature some of the high-end safety equipment that includes autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, forward collision alert, side blind-zone alert, rear cross traffic alert, parking assist, a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors and adaptive cruise control.
Practicality is taken to new levels in the Holden Commodore Tourer. Towing is limited to 2100 kg for a braked trailer, while the luggage space is a big and beefy 793 litres loaded to the roof behind second row seats. You can fold the second row split bench seat flat which expands the space to a huge 1665 litres. The loading area is nice and long, low and flat, and includes a string net and security cover for added versatility. Bottle holders, compartment bins and nifty storage space are cleverly designed in strategic places about the cabin.
In my book, the 2018 Holden Commodore Tourer gets the big tick. There is plenty of space, great levels of grunt, and five-star safety – all packaged in a classy sportwagon design. One to enjoy with more than just a pinch of spicy adventure!
