Jaguar XF Petrol

It’s always a bit of a debate as to which would be the best luxury sports car available.  There will always be those who would think Mercedes Benz, and those who would argue BMW or even Lexus.  As the answer really comes down to personal preference, it’s always best if you can drive the various models that tickle your fancy before making your judgement call.  There’s not that much between driving capability, quality and features when it comes to the best; and one of the best on show is the new Jaguar XF sedan.  Petrol models are beautifully refined and the luxury/sport experience is unique and rewarding.

Jaguar’s new XF is a car that fits into the medium-to-large size luxury sector, loaded with features and brimming with the highest technology that’s enough to leave you breathless.  Seating is very good for five, while the sedan shape allows for a decent boot for carrying luggage (505 litres).  The Jaguar XF Petrol models feature Portfolio, R-Sport and S packaging.  Beautifully crafted interiors are full leather and the choice of interior colours and materials is large, thus enabling you to have what feels like your very own, unique and special Jaguar XF sedan.  Jaguar is only too happy to get you the exact car you’re after, so they are pretty good dealers to work with.

Inside the new Jaguar XF Petrol sedan you really do feel like royalty.  The leather upholstery and veneers look gorgeous – whether you prefer carbon fibre or wood veneer detailing.  Making the cabin your own can be as simple as selecting twin-stitched, glove-soft leather that includes premium Windsor Grain.  To this you can add more sleek veneers and quality cloths in a choice of colours.  A really cool feature with all the new cars, is you can even add your own words to the illuminated tread plates, making it unmistakeably your own.  Rear seat leg room is very good for its class, and this has been increased by 15mm over the outgoing model.  A 27mm increase in head space is also a feature of the new XF.

Sink into the supple and soft driver’s seat and you straight away appreciate the comfort levels.  Push the Start button and the XF Petrol sedan comes to light with a perfect step sequence; air vents rotate open, the contemporary satin black rotary selector rises smoothly, and the engine snarls.  Head-Up display with laser technology, an InControl touch pro-infotainment system, an 8-inch touch-screen with intuitive touch and swipe controls, 10GB of on-board dedicated media storage, a satellite navigation, 12.3 inch HD Virtual Instrument Display, and a 380 W Meridian Digital Sound System with 11 speakers is standard.  You can kit the XF sedan out with the premium new digital 825 W Meridian Surround Sound System with 17 speakers for nothing short of amazing sound!

A notable feature of the Jaguar XF Petrol is its dynamic drive.  Being RWD, the fun factor goes up a notch or two, and the balance and control are excellent.  Jaguar has worked very hard to create a lightweight aluminium body shell to strip the car of any excess weight.  The design team has come up with near perfect 50:50 balance – an ideal platform to construct your chassis aimed towards agility and precision steering.  The new XF has been revised, bettered and updated from its already very rewarding predecessor.  Now around 190 kg lighter than the previous generation XF, the car’s weight puts it among the lightest in its class.  Boasting a lighter weight has its sure benefits in handling and in improved fuel efficiency.

Unique to Jaguar; the XF has an All Surface Progress Control (ASPC) system which gives you added confidence in slippery conditions.  ASPC is a low-speed cruise control that helps the XF sedan maintain control and traction when the conditions get slippery.  An optional extra on the Portfolio and R-Sport includes the Adaptive Dynamics system which is standard on the Jaguar XF S version.  This system modifies the car’s response to both your driving style and the road conditions.  Adaptive Dynamics is constantly adjusting the dampers to provide the optimum balance, control and comfort for your drive.  Jaguar has also equipped the new XF Petrol sedan with Drive Control.  This system is able to subtly change the steering, throttle response and gearbox shift points according to your preferred driving mode.  These modes include: Standard, Eco, Dynamic or Rain Ice Snow Mode.

So, the result is a Jaguar luxury/sport sedan with plenty of ‘fun factor’ included.  All models can accelerate quickly and smoothly, especially as there is an eight-speed auto doing the power transfer.  Portfolio and R-Sport models have the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, 177 kW and 3.0-litre, V6, 250 kW power plants to choose from.  The XF S has the 3.0-litre, V6, 280 kW powerhouse.
