If you are on the lookout for a prominent new sedan with loads of top features, nice ride and a not-too-expensive price, then the Kia Optima Sedan should be on your list. The striking looks of the all-new 2016 Optima are distinctive and appealing on the eye. If performance is what you require, then the GT model will excite with its 2.0-litre Turbo engine and taut handling. In standard form, the Kia Optima Si Sedan offers a nice swift drive with a responsive engine and smooth driveline.
The overall length of the latest Kia Optima Sedan is 4855 mm in length – very similar to a new Honda Accord but longer than a Toyota Camry. Slip inside the interior of one of these, and the roominess and comfort levels of the seats are excellent. Boot space is always handy to know, and 510 litres of boot space means that there is plenty of scope for carrying plenty of gear with you on the family trip. The back seats fold flat and split 60:40 to free up even more space should you need to carry longer, trickier items on-board. There are plenty of storage spaces available throughout the cabin which includes door bins, a lidded central compartment in the centre console and a cooled glovebox.
Top of the range GT Optima models get the full ‘shebang’ of equipment, and so nice full black leather upholstery, a wireless phone charger, heated and ventilated seats, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, powerful xenon headlights with headlight washing, a panoramic sunroof, smart park assist and a 360-degree view about the car are included on this model. A 2.0-litre Turbo engine packs 180 kW of power, backed up with 350 Nm of torque available from 1400-to-4000 rpm. Performance figures feature a 0-100 km sprint time of around the 7.4 second mark and a top speed of 240 km/h.
The Kia Optima Si model is still a nice sedan to drive. Featuring cloth trim seats, paddle shift gear changes (when wanted), a six-speaker sound system, satellite navigation, a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth communications, speed dependant volume control and a nice shark fin antenna are just some of the items offered. The cloth trim seats are actually nice and plush. Though the manual adjustment of the front seats are non-powered, the ability for the driver get nice and comfy behind the wheel is easy. Like the GT model, the Si Optima has dual-zone climate control and rear air vents.
On the road, the Kia Optima Si Sedan feels solid and safe. The ride is comfortable and the steering nice and responsive. There is more body roll, naturally, then the sportier GT drive. The Kia Optima GT Sedan has plenty of get-up-and-go, and thus boasts uprated brakes, more performance and stiffer body control. The overall GT drive appeals and is always rewarding to drive.
Safety features have enabled the new Kia Optima Sedan to gain the five-star safety award, with occupant safety scoring highly. There are safety aids which work well and aid the safety of the vehicle’s occupants. A speed limiter, Electronic Stability Control, a lane departure warning system and seat belt reminder are standard features of both Optima sedans.
Two of the features that I really like about the Kia Optima design is its long nose with the broad head lighting display wrapped in chrome and the option of the panoramic glass roof. The Kia Optima Sedan is always going to be popular, as the distinctive looks are futuristic.
The new Kia Optima Sedan is priced very competitively, and this feature is going to be a major draw card for the potential buyer. The new Kia Optima Sedan offers plenty of kit for the money and drives as well as many more expensive cars in its class.
