Here is the latest Kia Cerato, which comes in both a five-door hatchback and four-door sedan. It’s a smart little car that gives nice seat comfort, all the necessary infotainment and a nice ride quality. Having space for carrying three adults in the back is a handy capability for what is a small car with clean lines.
Kia makes its 2022 Cerato model range nice and simple to understand, as there are no extra models hidden away in the closet. You can get the Cerato in Hatch and Sedan form, both of which come in the same trim levels: S, Sport, Sport+ and GT. The latest models add a freshness to a car that has been around for over a decade now, and it’s up against rivals from Toyota’s Corolla, the Honda Civic and Mazda variants. Even sister-brand Hyundai has their excellent i30 models.
Even the base model Cerato S has a premium finish to its exterior, with trimmings of chrome and a honeycomb grille. The deep front air dam gives the new Cerato models a strong appearance and the sleek headlight design is bold and crisp. Stylish 16-inch alloys give the Kia Cerato S a nice blend of road hugging ability and ride comfort.
Inside the car is a pleasant interior with a simple layout that is easy to use and clear. The flowing edges across and over the dash are cool and give a melted look to the fascia, while soft touch dash materials are even part of the base model’s repertoire. Everything inside the Kia Cerato’s cabin has been well put together and it feels well made. Shortcut buttons beneath the touchscreen are very easy and effective to use for getting yourself inside, and around, Kia’s infotainment system’s software.
The steering wheel is nice and chunky, fitting well into the driver’s hands. The blend of steering wheel and driver’s seat adjustment is superb, creating a nice feeling for the driver and their long journey ahead; so, whether you are tall or short and are sitting in the hot seat, the Cerato accommodates you perfectly for the task at hand.
As far as entry level models go, the 2022 Kia Cerato S is comfortable and classy and definitely one of the best in class. The S model also comes standard with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. And, even though the base model doesn’t come standard with a satellite navigation system, you can connect up your phone to the infotainment system very easily and, ‘voila’, there is your mapping system with directions thanks to your car’s Smartphone connection and compatibility.
Two 12V sockets, USB connections and auxiliary input points are at the ready in front of the gear lever. The tray in front of the gear lever is perfect for fitting your mobile phone inside. Handy storage is present in the form of cupholders in the front, centre console, door and glovebox storage. There is even a space for your sunglasses up by the rear-view mirror.
Base Cerato S variants come standard with air-conditioning, cruise control and a reversing camera. In the back seats you’ll find decent room for adults, an arm rest, cupholders, pockets on the back of the front seats and isofix points. Boot space is excellent for this class of car. An adjustable boot floor is cool. Tether points and straps are present. A space saver wheel means that you have the maximum luggage space. Perhaps, even more interestingly, the sedan has a significantly larger boot at 502 litres against the hatchback’s 428.
Apart from the visual differences to the outgoing Cerato range, there’s an improved ride quality. The standard auto transmissions (conventional six-speed for all but the GT Turbo) and additional safety, including rear occupant alert and safe exit warnings are some nice improvements. There are four variants: S, Sport, Sport+ and GT, along with two engines. The 112 kW/192 Nm 2.0-litre petrol is given to the S, Sport and Sport+, while the seven-speed dual-clutch Turbo’s 150 kW/265 Nm 1.6-litre petrol motor is found in the GT. All 2022 Kia Cerato cars can tow an 1100 kg braked or a 610 kg unbraked trailer.
There is an optional safety pack for the S and Sport, which includes AEB Fusion II autonomous emergency braking, and car, pedestrian and cyclist detection. With this package you also get smart cruise control, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert. The Sport+ and the GT get the full array of premium safety features as standard, which come together to give the little Kia Cerato Hatch the full five stars in the ANCAP safety tests. Blind Spot Sensors, Collision Mitigation – Reversing with Braking, Collision Warning – Rearward, Cross Traffic Alert – Rear and Side Door Exit Warning are all features you’ll find in the new Cerato from South Korea. The models lower down the pecking order are still nice cars and feel solid but come with a four-star safety rating if you go without the optional safety package.
A new Kia Cerato GT is the flagship model and it offers its owners a few more goodies. Features like an 8-speaker sound system, LED headlights, ventilated sports front seats, sports pedals, a body kit with lower front and rear aprons and side skirts, twin exhaust outlets, a seven-speed sports automatic gearbox, and of course the punchier 1.6 Turbo motor.
Mazda 2, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and Hyundai i30 are other decent options for you, however all new Kia Cerato Hatchbacks and Sedans come with a 7 year/unlimited km warranty and 1 years worth of roadside assistance. For a pleasant drive and bang for your buck, the latest Cerato is a fine choice of small car.
