A rather stylish electric van that you can buy in 2024 comes in the form of the LDV MIFA 9. There aren’t many electric people-moving vans we can buy here in Australia, so this is one of only three options at the moment; the other two electric vans come off the Mercedes Benz showroom floor.
The new LDV MIFA 9 can seat up to seven people comfortably and has been tested by ANCAP, which resulted in it being awarded a 5-star ANCAP safety rating. Features on board any new LDV electric people-mover van include adaptive cruise control, speed sign recognition, forward and reverse autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist with a lane departure warning, driver attention monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
There are three models offered in the LDV MIFA 9 range, which starts at a little over $100k for the base model Mode (at the time of writing). In the middle of the range sits the Executive model with a few more gizmos added into the mix. At the top of the tree, you’ll find the fully loaded LDV MIFA 9 Luxe, and it’s at this price you have to decide between this van or a Mercedes Benz eVito People Mover. And way beyond this $135k mark lies the only other electric people mover van on the market: a Mercedes Benz EQV, which is an electric van with a $165k ticket price (at least when I’m writing this – the team here at Private Fleet may be able to score you a better deal).
For a private buyer looking to roll around the roads in a spacious vehicle that takes power from the grid, an electric van is perhaps a niche buy. But for a business that wants to run its clients about town in a quiet, spacious environment, then the big asking price could make sense. It certainly provides an exclusive form of transport. An LDV MIFA 9 seats seven people but also has plenty of space in the boot to take luggage. This luggage space can expand, depending on how it is configured. It starts with 466 litres behind the last row with all the seats in place. The rear seats can be arranged to accommodate up to 2017 litres of storage if you fold them right out of the way.
For the entry-level LDV MIFA 9 Mode, you get up to 180 kW of power put through the front wheels, and there is a maximum of 350 Nm of torque. These figures are enough to send you through to 180 km/h should you feel the need; but why you’d want to do that in something like this I’m not sure… It uses a 90-kWh battery pack that is said to last for 440 km. A 12.3-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker stereo, crash avoidance technology, rollover stability control, hill descent control and hill start assist, a rear camera, multi-zone climate control, keyless start, LED headlights and taillights, leather-look seats, a digital driver’s display, a speed zone reminder with speed limiter, heated windows, regenerative braking, an independent front suspension, 18-inch alloys, a 1-tonne braked trailer towing capacity, and a 5-year/160,000 km warranty are some of the features when you buy a new MIFA 9 Mode.
Next up in the range is the LDV MIFA 9 Executive, and this version adds things like electric sliding doors, a 360-view parking camera, and a 360-view parking camera.
Sitting as the flagship model is the LDV MIFA 9 Luxe. This is the loaded version, so things like a wireless charging pad on the upper centre console, individual digital touchscreens for each occupant sitting in the rear, 64-colour ambient lighting for the interior, fold-out tables, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and comfy front row seats with eight-way power adjustment with memory, heating, ventilation, and a massage function are present. The driver also has a steering wheel that can be heated – good on cold mornings. There are three USB points in the front, two USB points in the second row, and another two USB points that you’ll locate in the third row of the Luxe.
You should still see a range of at least 400 km from the Luxe version, but keep in mind that the more features you switch on, and the more you ask of the battery, the range does drop away.
