I haven’t heard of a whole lot of action happening in the E-Class corner lately – well, not since Mercedes Benz gave the latest E-Class its update and the swooping and very long digital dash display that absorbed the central touchscreen – until now, when the Coupe models looks as classy as any executive Merc should.  And being a Coupe, the 2024 Mercedes Benz E-Class Coupe is even more sexy with its lovely two-door design and epic suite of engines and technological features. 

Mercedes offers Australia the new E-Class Coupe in three models: the E200, E350, and E53 AMG.  The E200 Coupe is a nice and stylish model that sets you back a little over $120k (prices at the time of writing).  Running with a powerful 2.0-litre turbo ULP-98 motor which is linked to super-smooth 9-speed automatic to send the power out to its RWD layout, the car feels silkily swift and beautifully composed for touring the continent in luxury, safety, and style.  Peak power of 145 kW comes on at 6100 rpm, and there’s a healthy 320 Nm pulling well at 4000 rpm.  As this is a 2.0-litre turbo, the strong torque comes in low down in the revs; hence, it is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in around 7.5 seconds. 

Next on the three-step ladder is the 2024 Mercedes Benz E350 Coupe.  And this is where you feel a surge in outright performance.  The E350 Coupe runs the motorways with 220 kW under its belt, which comes into full swing at 6100 rpm.  There is also 400 Nm of torque singing at 4000 rpm, so a slouch this is not.  You can take down 0–100 km/h in around 6 seconds.  This is the model for me.  I love the way it is glued to the road, and the sweet level of grunt is exciting without being tiresomely so.

Now anything with four wheels made by Mercede Benz and has AMG in its name is going to be seriously quick!  For 2024, the flagship E-Class Coupe is currently the E53 AMG.  With 320 kW and 520 Nm available at the flex of your right foot, this is the pick of the bunch if sheer performance is what gives you the adrenaline rush you desire.  A sub-5-second time is all it takes to stretch the 3.0-litre turbo’s AWD legs through the 0–100 dash.  This is a delicious car to drive, with the most enjoyable part being that this is a big, 6-cylinder muscle car softy with great cruising credentials and a wicked kick in the pants when it comes time for passing manoeuvres.  The new E53 AMG Coupe is loaded with smiles for miles, and will be a treat to own and drive for years to come.

OK, so you want a new E Class Coupe (I know you do!), but what about its space and practicality?  The 2023/24 Mercedes Benz E-Class Coupe does offer split-folding rear seats.  The rear seats are able to be split in a 40/20/40 fashion, adding an extra degree of convenience to the E-Class Coupe when luggage-carrying duties are necessary.  It also means that longer items can be passed through from the back.  With the rear seats up and in place, the boot can accommodate 425 litres of luggage.  Even though the E200 and the E350 are Coupes, these two versions that are equipped for towing an 1800 kg braked trailer or a 750 kg unbraked tag-along.  The AMG model hasn’t been set up to tow, however.
