Riding with the top down, enjoying the open air and the sunshine is the best way to get around the coastal roads of Australia. If you can do it in the Mini Cabrio, it just happens to be a little more special.
So what’s in the Mini Cabrio concoction that makes it such an attractive and appealing package? Is it in the equipment levels? Well you could definitely say that the 16 or 17-inch alloys, cloth, cloth and leather, leather seats, heated seats (Cooper S and John Cooper Works or optional), climate control, Bluetooth, Hi-Fi sounds or the luxo leather and velour packages give it plenty of charm.
Is it in the performance? Well you could also say that with the standard 90 kW petrol engine there is plenty of fun to be had. Just look at the performance potential of the base Mini Cooper Cabrio model: a 9.8 sec 0-100 km/h sprint time and a top speed of 198 km/h. This is enough speed to get the heart racing, especially when you link this to such a taut and dynamic handling package. Step up to the Mini Cooper S Cabrio, and the performance gets quite dominating. On offer here is some serious right foot action that will keep you well ahead of the competition. A grunty 135 kW engine packs a 240 Nm punch that can send you all the way up to 225 km/h on the right road, of course. Remarkably, the Cooper S Cabrio can return a rather frugal 6.4 litres/100 km combined fuel run. Now that’s performance at a light price! So can it get any quicker. Slip into the heated leather sports seats of the Mini John Cooper Works Cabrio and you can really let your hair down for some serious track times. An XR8 ankle biter, the John Cooper Works Cabrio manages a 0-100 km/h time of just 6.9 seconds, and you can stretch your legs out to 235 km/h, too. Where you’ll leave a heavier XR8 reeling is on the corners. This thing goes round corners like it’s glued to rails. The smiles all round will definitely add to the driver enthusiast’s ‘Mini Cabrio’ experience.
So, ok… the Mini Cabrio models know how to perform. What else can possibly cause the mighty Mini Cabrio to go off so well? It’s those gorgeous, cute lines that you just can’t find anywhere else.
