Nissan have a long history of building strong, dependable pickups. With each new model the boundaries of innovation have been pushed, providing you with everything you need to get the job done. Nissan’s new Navara NP300 Petrol combines a tough working ute with premium ride comfort, smart technologies, and sleek, modern styling. These attributes give you the opportunity to step from a day on the job to a night on the town while always looking your best. With a nice fresh exterior, the new NP300 models are great to look at.
Inside the new Navara petrol utes, the comfort levels are high and the array of new technology is impressive. Even the single cab models are well equipped and give the competition a run for their money. Both options boast a six-way driver’s seat with manual slide/recline/height adjustment. This standard feature helps make travelling as relaxed and as comfortable as possible. The steering wheel column is also tilt and height adjustable, so whether you happen to be short, tall or have even upgraded from a six-pack stomach to a keg in the midriff you can easily find a position in the roomy Navara that will suit your shape. Covered in a nice cloth material, the seats are soft to touch and hard wearing. Slip into the rear seats of a new Nissan Navara NP300 Dual Cab, and the passenger space accommodates occupant legs well. I like the way that the new Navara Dual Cab easily makes the family sedan obsolete. The Dual Cab version has two rear seat headrests. A single CD player, AM/FM radio unit is standard and it has an AUX/iPod connecting point to make listening to your favourite songs a simple task. Steering wheel controls are standard, and the clarity of sound is excellent through the six-speaker system. Keep in touch with colleagues and friends via the Bluetooth handsfree phone.
There is plenty of storage space; with a centre console compartment, glove compartment, upper dashboard storage tray and front and rear door storage pockets. Cup holders front and rear make for easy coffee on the run, and you can take your sunglasses out of the overhead front console when the sun glare becomes too much.
Both of the new Nissan Navara NP300 Petrol varieties come with cruise control as standard, so when the smooth 122 kW engine ventures over the legal limit, you can rein the power in with a very user friendly cruise control system. Excellent low-to-mid range engine performance means that the NP300 Navara Petrol can carry loads and pass slower traffic with a punch in reserve. Torque maxis out at 238 Nm and peaks at 4000 rpm. A six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed automatic with manual mode are the two choices for accessing the engine power.
On the road, the big new NP300 Navara handles well, and can be hustled through the corners with a surprising level of grip. Stopping power is predictable and strong, while the steering feels well weighted and tangible. Pulling a 750 kg trailer without brakes seems too easy for this type of vehicle, however, that’s what the manufacturer suggests. A braked trailer up to 1588 kg can also be town. The difference between the rear suspension for the Cab Chassis and the Dual Cab is that the Dual Cab has the multi-link rear suspension and the Single Cab has the leaf springs.
When it comes to safety, the NP300 Navara Petrol is very well kitted out with safety features. ABS, EBD, TCS, VDC, a limited slip differential, BA, front occupants get front and side airbags, the driver geats a knee airbag. Front to rear curtain airbags are standard. Front occupants have seatbelts that are height adjustable and come with pre-tensioners and load-limiters. Daytime running lights are standard. The Halogen headlights are very effective, lighting up the way ahead in a full wide angle at night. A Nissan anti-theft vehicle immobiliser and lockable fuel cap are standard features that are going to be handy anywhere in Australia, but I can’t help think that in some of the remoter parts of Australia, this will be a very welcome item.
Front and rear mud flaps, a front tow hook and tie points inside the rear deck are standard. Exterior colours are Polar white, Cosmic black or Burning red, as standard. For an added cost, Brilliant silver and Deep sapphire are also available. So, whether it’s the Dual Cab or the Single Cab chassis, the new petrol Navara NP300 is a strong player. Up against the Ford Ranger and the Toyota Hilux, the Navara makes a very strong show of itself.
