Looking out for a super-sexy new wagon for 2024? Then the Peugeot’s 308 Wagon has all the style you’ll need. The mid-size wagon looks awesome from every angle, and it doesn’t just stop at the doors because once you’re inside, the 308 style just keeps on flowing. This is definitely a very chic and cool-looking machine that is comfortable, surprisingly frugal, and fun to drive.
Where the 308 SW feels most at home is cruising on the open road. It is really well set up for this, remaining composed and rock-solid at speed, and taking any road imperfections in its stride. This is definitely a car for covering long distances, as the front seats, in particular, are lovely. Flick on the cruise control and away you go. You get up to speed easily and can run at higher speeds without much trouble at all. The road and wind noise are adequately muted, so listening to your favourite music as you take in the sights on a well-deserved road trip are what this wagon is all about. The sound system has 10 speakers, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are both standard features and can be connected to wirelessly. Wireless charging and connection to your own phone makes life in the techie world an easy thing with this new 308 Peugeot wagon.
Around town and city streets, the 308 Wagon is easy enough to point and shoot, and there are cameras for aiding parking manoeuvres as required.
Power for the 2024 Peugeot 308 Wagon comes from a sprightly petrol-fed internal combustion engine. It is a sweet little 1.2-litre turbocharged motor that produces 96 kW of power and 230 Nm of torque. The three-cylinder motor is remarkably frugal, and you can easily achieve as low as 5.5 litres/100 km. It’s also pretty good with CO2 emission levels, emitting 123–147 g/km of the gas that helps enhance plant growth (fact). The new 308 Wagon is paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and has front-wheel-drive for getting the power down.
As mentioned already, the Peugeot’s interior is a rather nice place to be. In essence, you get two 10.0-inch displays, where one display is for the driver instruments and the other touchscreen display is for the infotainment features. In a 308 Wagon, especially in the Premium model, you are seated in some really nice comfortable seats; there are sport pedals, gloss black trim, and a small steering wheel that fits snugly in your grip. Peugeot’s dash is super stylish and one that I reckon takes some beating even in a luxury class. There are nice materials on the dashboard, with the sharp lines and clear displays all adding up to make the 308 Wagon’s interior one of the nicest- you can find anywhere these days.
Peugeot’s iCockpit design remains a key feature of the new 308 models, and once you’re used to the layout and seating position, it seems to work well. The small steering wheel is lower down so that you can see the digital driver’s display above it, and it’s an arrangement that looks super modern and unique, while also providing a decent measure of adjustment.
The 2024 Peugeot 308 Wagon that is sold in Australia is the GT Premium model, so it gets the all the higher-end goodies. It comes with three interior trim finishes and gets a nice adjustable ambient lighting throughout the cabin. All of the materials are of a very good quality, so Peugeot hasn’t cut any corners here, and the touchy-feely surfaces are nice too.
There are some other options you may like to consider for your new Peugeot 308 GT Premium Wagon. The towbar, for instance, allows you to tow a braked trailer up to 1400 kg. And there is a nice metallic or premium paint job you can get to show off the classy 308 Wagon even more!
A good number of USB connection points exist throughout the cabin. Storage options are useful, and space for the occupants in the rear seats is reasonable for the medium-size class, though you may find other vehicles, like those from Skoda or Mazda, have a bit more room back here for taller folk. Isofix anchor points are standard on the car, and the boot space is very good; the 608 litres (with the rear seats up) will swallow a lot of stuff. It’s actually a lot bigger than what you’ll discover in a Toyota Corolla and even a tad more than in a Volkswagen Golf Estate (a Skoda Octavia is the class leader, though, at 640 litres).
Features like cruise control, active safety braking, an immobiliser, two Isofix points in the rear seats, airbags all round, and lane keeping assistance are standard safety kit. Both ANCAP and Euro NCAP crash testing has given the Peugeot 308 Wagon a 4-star rating. It is a solid car for occupant safety on all fronts, except for it being lighter on some of the active safety features and those which aim to protect pedestrians; thus it did not get the full five stars.
This is a car I’d be happy to own, and the 308’s design is really stylish. The new 308 gets rear lights with a special 3D effect going on, while there are more creases and thicker cladding on the back bumper. The exterior design also incorporates a large grille at the front, with Peugeot’s logo right at the centre. The headlights remind me a little of the angular 504 of yesteryear, and I like that. And the sabre-like DRLs add extra pizazz to the front-end.
Overall, the 2024 Peugeot 308 GT Premium Wagon is a nice bit of kit with sharp lines and a cool set of alloy wheel designs to set it off. This is a nice comfortable car to drive, and efficient too.
