Just how Smart can Smart get? I thought they were already super Smart coming up with a fun filled motorfied rollerskate with the earlier Smart models, but the new little Smart ForTwo mhd (micro hybrid drive) is an outstanding city-blitzing machine.
For those of you who appreciate how difficult parking in busy inner city streets can be from time to time, you will be amazed at how easy the new Smart ForTwo mhd is to whiz around town and park. This is a small two seater, hence Smart “For Two”, and is tiny when you stand next to it.
Rear wheel driven, the little car is fun to zip round corners and urge along an open piece of road. The car offers surefooted progress even at the legal open road limit and beyond. The Smart Fortwo mhd features some very clever automotive technology. An environmentally friendly ECO stop/start system uses a function that automatically switches the engine off at traffic lights or in a traffic jam. As the traffic jam gets underway again, and you need to move, the feature flicks the engine on so things get moving again. Smart’s mhd technology switches the engine off as soon as you brake and fall below a speed of 8 km/h. When the time comes to set off again, take your foot off the brake pedal and the engine seamlessly restarts, automatically engaged in first gear ready to continue your journey. Pretty awesome really.
The reduction in both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions is exceptional, such that Australia has named it the greenest car on the continent. You just know that this little car is going to treat you right at the pump, that is why it come as no surprise to find that your combined fuel consumption figure for the zesty little mhd Smart versions is 4.4l/100 for both the coupe and cabrio variants. Both run a sprightly 52 kW motor that offers good acceleration such that the 0-100 km/h times are around the 13 second mark. As far as emissions go, both versions offer a small value of 105 g/km, and no other cars come close.
Nice, quirky interiors with loads of colour, comfort and style create a transport method to-and-from work that is a cut above the alternative options available to the modern day white and blue collar worker.
