I can’t believe the price! The big 4×4 SUV is exceptional value – and the diesel under the hood is simply superb. Grab yourself the latest Ssangyong Actyon and you’ll be impressed with the vehicles ability.
Two models are available: the A200 XDi and an A200 XDi SPR. Buy one of these new, and you can have the confidence of a three-year/100,000 km to back up your purchase.
Taking all surfaces in its stride, the Ssangyong Actyon A200 XDi is well equipped. ABS, EBD, driver and passenger airbags, nice looking 18-inch alloy wheels, reverse parking sensors and front and rear fog lights are standard features.
Step into the A200 XDi SPR, and the leather seats, heated and electric front seats, side curtain airbags, climate controlled air-conditioning and electric folding side mirrors are enough to keep most people very happy, indeed. Also standard, are the Hill Descent Control (HDC) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Traction Control features. An impressive Active Rollover Protection (ARP) system adds even more safety to the Ssangyong SUV answer.
Not bad, eh?!
What do you get if you cross an off-roading SUV with a sports coupe? While this sounds like the start of a joke along the lines of the old one about a cross between a sheep and a kangaroo (you know the answer: a woolly jumper), the answer to this question – the Ssangyong Actyon 4×4 SUV – is no joke. Even if you expect the “eagle eye” headlights to wink at you any moment. It may seem like a hard task to blend the tough go-get-em looks of an SUV with the sportier lines of a coupe, but Ssangyong have managed to pull it off. This is certainly an SUV with a lot of personality that is likely to appeal to those who want style and comfort as well as off-roading toughness. If a regular 4×4 SUV is a cowboy that hasn’t shaved for a week, the Ssangyong Actyon 4×4 SUV is one wearing aftershave and has his good suit on for a night painting the town red.
However, the toughness goes away on the inside. The interior is pure sports car, with an ergonomic dash with easy-to read dials, chrome and black trim, steering wheel mounted audio controls, a 12 V power outlet, and the leather bound steering wheel. And that’s just in the base model Ssangyong Actyon 4×4 SUV. The SPR adds in automatic climate control, rain-sensitive wipers, heated front leather seats and an auto-dimming rear mirror.
Is the Ssangyong Actyon 4×4 SUV sporty or not? Well, read the stats and find out. Being a Ssangyong, the Actyon SUV has a diesel powerplant (Ssangyong’s tagline is “We Do Diesel”). Specifically, the Ssangyong Actyon 4×4 SUV has a 2.0 turbocharged DOHC common-rail direct injection that it shares with its brother, the Actyon Dual Cab Ute. This unit’s maximum power is 104 kW at 4000, which may seem a little low, but the torque figures (310 Nm at 1800) make up for it with more than enough capacity to accelerate away from the petrol-powered competition. This is accessed via a five-speed manual transmission in the base model and via a four-speed automatic in the SPV model. The 4×4 system is part-time, with shift-on-the-fly selectability.
The Ssangyong Actyon 4×4 SUV SPV has more stability/active safety features than the base model, such as hill descent control, active roll-over protection, ESP, Brake Assist and traction control, but even the base model has EBD and ABS brakes, fog lights and rear parking assist, plus the passive safety features: front airbags (the SPV has curtain airbag as well), pretensioned and load-limited front seat belts, and side impact beams. What’s certain is that both Ssangyong Actyon 4×4 SUV models would come off better in a crash than the typical little sports coupe, as the Actyon is bigger: it is an SUV.
I don’t quite know exactly what you would call this crossover vehicle type. It could be a sports SUV (a sports sports utility vehicle????) or a SUV coupe, but one thing’s certain: the Ssangyong Actyon 4×4 SUV certainly fills a gap in the market with style and ease.
The current model series includes the:
