A very competitive area for car manufacturing is the pick-up. This is such an important sector in the market for both manufacturers and businesses alike because there are many businesses that require a pick-up for getting the tough jobs done. They are such useful vehicles, built to carry loads, family or even stock from A-to-B. What will make the new Toyota Hilux range stand out from the others? The answer is not a lot really, except that what Toyota does, it always does very well. And they ride on a wave of past customer satisfaction that had been built on providing a work vehicle that provides rugged, reliability and practicality day in and day out.
It is not the most powerful Double-Cab pick-up on the market, but the new 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine is a smooth, powerful unit none-the-less. Torque is a very credible 450 Nm, and is available from as low as 1500 rpm – perfect for off-road and towing. The Mazda BT-50 and Ford Ranger Double Cab pick-ups pack more punch with 147 kW and 470 Nm, however that comes with the help of a larger capacity 3.2-litre turbo-diesel – and in the real world usually more ccs equates to higher average fuel consumption. Nissan’s new Navara competes very well in this company, with a twin-turbo 2.3 turbo-diesel that seems more frugal and packs the same torque as a Hilux 2.8-litre but with greater power at 140 kW. Underway, the new 2.8-litre diesel Toyota Hilux feels nice and flexible, smooth in its operation and quick enough to keep the cops interested.
Other engines are available to the new Toyota Hilux Double-Cab range. A 2.4-litre 110 kW, 343 Nm diesel or a 122 kW 2.7-litre petrol engine power the Workmate 4×2 Double Cab. A 2.4-litre 110 kW, 400 Nm diesel powers the Workmate 4×4 Double-Cab. The SR 4×2 Double Cab boasts a 4.0-litre V6 petrol engine with plenty of go, but is a little thirsty. The SR 4×2 Hi Rider Double-Cab Pick-Up is the model with the new 2.8-litre turbo-diesel mentioned earlier. The SR5 4×4 Double-Cab Pick-Up can be powered by the 2.8 litre diesel or large 4.0-litre petrol engine.
On the practical side, the new Toyota Hilux Double-Cab range is capable of towing a braked 2500 kg trailer or an un-braked 750 kg trailer. Loading onto the rear deck is easy, and comfort levels inside any of the new Hilux Double Cab models is good. Rear legroom and head room are excellent, and the modern interior surrounds you in space and with modern materials. Leather is available on the higher-end SR5 models. The new Hilux Double-Cab ergonomics look and feel great, and each of the models come equipped with power windows. Loads of handy storage areas are available inside the cabin, and in the SR and SR5 models there is an air-conditioned cooler box for keeping your drinks cool on a blistering hot day. SR5 Double Cab models also get the handy 220 Volt accessory connector for charging accessories like your laptop or phone.
Another feature that all the Double Cab Toyota Hilux models boast is cruise control, a feature that keeps you legal and relaxed. Great sounds are a must for any long work day, and Toyota have equipped the Double Cab pick-ups with a sound system that has a multi-function display screen, CD, USB, AUX and Bluetooth connectivity. Opt for the SR5 variant and the cabin is rocking to a premium six-speaker soundtrack. On all Double Cab models, except the Workmate, steering wheel controls are standard and these allow you to drive the sound system and telephone. Voice control is also standard.
You need to be looking your best when it comes to impressing your clientele, and with the new Toyota Hilux Double Cab you can be sure that the great new looks and modern sophistication is going to attract the right attention.
