What a little ripper. Inside the Fiat 500 Twin Air package you’ll find all the smiles to keep you happy for your favourite Aussie drives. Great looks and a peppy little engine go, almost, all the way to sealing the deal for you on one of my favourite small car reviews.
Larger than life, the Fiat 500 Twin Air has a lot to say for itself. From inside, the fun dash, colours and dials balance nicely and catch the eye. What I love about the Fiat 500 Twin Air and Fiat 500C Twin Air is that the whole driving experience is kicked off by a brilliant driving position that feels involving because you’re right set-up perfectly behind the wheel. The chunky steering wheel, the gear lever, the pedals all feel right and work nicely together because the fun little Fiat is ergonomically sound, right from the start.
Sporty, the Fiat 500 Twin Air most definitely is. A distinctive exterior design makes you the star of the road, with the racy sport kit including a spoiler and a chrome-plated tailpipe. It’s not just the guys who will love the 16-inch Matt Black alloy wheels and the dark tinted windows. You’ll find the Fiat 500 Twin Air’s interior flair for colour and texture is balanced with plenty of electronic gadgets and sophistication. A Radio/CD/MP3 player comes as standard and boasts a USB auxiliary function. Things like remote central locking, heated door mirrors, an electric power steering system, electric front windows and door locking, a 12v power socket, automatic climate control air-conditioning and a sports leather steering wheel with eight commands come as standard items to make the journey fun and relaxed.
Top road-handling and brakes are backed up by ABS with EBD. Active safety is matched by the willing 63 kW of power, peaking at 5500 rpm. Now this excitement comes from an 875 cc petrol engine that boasts a top speed of 173 km/h, and is turbo powered! You’ll get to love third gear, as the buzzy little engine powers the Fiat 500 Twin Air up hills and through city streets like plenty of sports cars with a thirstier engine. It’s fun – just the way it should be. Start and Stop technology aid an, already, excellent fuel efficiency. Now you can expect the Fiat 500 Twin Air and Fiat 500C Twin Air to return a healthy 4.0 litres/100 km, approximately.
Packed with safety technology, the Fiat 500 Twin Air will get you about with a few tricks up its sleeve, should the journey include a ding. Dual-stage driver and passenger airbags, side airbags, window airbags and a knee airbag comprehensively lurk behind the funky trim.
Small doesn’t mean it can’t be clever. Inside the Fiat 500 Twin Air cabin there is many ingenious storage pockets for luggage items. Just don’t forget to take your lunch out of a pocket under the front passenger seat or you’ll suddenly remember it a week or two later!
The Fiat 500 Twin Air is a gem that won’t cost the earth to buy and won’t empty the wallet come fill up time. If I had to choose between a Fiat 500 Twin Air, Suzuki Alto and Toyota Yaris, the Fiat 500 Twin Air would be my pick. A Peugeot 107 or Citroen C1 might make things a little more difficult, though.
The current Fiat 500 Twin Air models include the:
