So, you like a bit of rough and ready action, and like to do it in style? The Jeep Commander will certainly take the rough and ready terrain in its stride. Superbly designed and built, the Jeep is a leader in the all-terrain 4×4 market. The Jeep Commander has beautiful upright lines, giving the large vehicle a very strong presence that comes in the form of a classy, solidly built 5-dr package offering plenty of room and comfort. Its heated eight-way power driver’s seat with four-way power front-passenger seat lets you head off-road or hit the town in style and comfort.
Tastefully appointed, the Jeep Commander has luxury items that will pamper and relax the lucky occupants while travelling over the roughest terrain, or stretching out along miles and miles of public roads. Comfortable leather or cloth trim seats, a premium sound system and an infrared Dual Zone Climate Control system are a few of the tasty items. All Jeep Commanders feature the new Electronic Vehicle Information Centre (EVIC). This feature allows access to important features, such as headlamp and wiper functions, digital compass, outside temperature, remote Keyless/Illuminated Entry System, service intervals and Trip Computer. The Jeep Commander features a powered sunroof, and dual skylights which extend over and beyond the second-row seats so that amazing sky-scapes can be enjoyed by all.
With the rear seats folded down, a cavernous cargo space is available. When upright, they provide room for up to seven passengers. Moreover, the fold-flat 40-20-40-split second-row seating allows easy entry and exit to and from the third row, while fold-flat 50-50-split third-row seating can accommodate both passengers and cargo. One of the excellent features that the Jeep Commander has is that the seats in the back gain elevation from the first row through to the third, making use of the roomy high roofline and allowing occupants a wonderful view, making the Jeep Commander a joy to travel inside.
And lest you think beauty runs only skin deep, consider the three fabulous engines that offer a wonderful blending of efficiency and power. The Jeep Commander has a superb diesel engine that is smooth and flexible, making it a perfect powerhouse for hardworking off-road use. The 3.0-litre CRD (Common-Rail Diesel) V6 engine features third generation common-rail direct injection technology and produces a massive 160kW at 4,000 rpm and 510Nm of torque at 1,600-2,400 rpm which is just sublime. Also available is a 4.7-litre V8 engine that produces 170kW at 4,500 rpm and 410Nm of torque at 3,600 rpm. This equates to loads of grunt that is accessible on demand. For all-out muscle, you can’t go past the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 that is a highly refined power plant that delivers outstanding performance. A colossal 240kW at 5,000 rpm and 500Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm is enough evidence to show just what power is available with this engine. An amazing feature that this engine has is the unique and fuel-efficient Multi-Displacement System (MDS), which shifts seamlessly from eight cylinders to four at cruising speeds.
So how does one apply the traction for such commendable engines? Through a Jeep Commander Quadra-Trac II system. This active four-wheel-drive system features a low-range setting that boosts torque when you need it in extreme off-road conditions. Quadra-Trac II works with the Commander’s Electronic Stability Program (ESP) to monitor and respond to differing driving conditions. Traction control shifts power around the wheels for optimum grip. The Jeep Commander has its exclusive heavy-duty four-wheel-drive system that includes Electronic Limited Slip Differentials (ELSDs) in the front and rear axle. An Electronic Roll Mitigation system and an ABS system are standard in the Jeep Commander.
The Jeep Commander boasts a five star safety rating – which is the highest attainable. Enough said!
One thing all Jeeps have is Jeep’s trademark off-road performance. But add this to impressive handling on road, and you have a vehicle that masters all terrain types – the rough with the smooth.
