Top down and the Bose stereo pumping out at 200 Watts is what dreams are made of, right? Mazda have made cruising the roads in a convertible that much more attainable. The Mazda MX-5 is a sensation that needs looking into. And the wind in the hair, sun on the face and stereo pumping clear music isn’t experienced in many better things than in the magical new MX-5.
It all starts in the driver’s seat, where Mazda has made the emphasis on superior handling and a responsive engine plant. A Mazda MX-5 is made for the driver, so playing on the twisty stuff is what the MX-5 is all about. The handling package in the latest Mazda MX-5 is purely balanced and wholly crisp.
The engine is willing and spirited right throughout its rev range, making it a joy to work through the six-speed manual gearbox. There is a six-speed Activematic auto transmission available, also.
One of the delights of the new design print is the exterior, which is beautiful to look at – perfectly blended with sporty and elegant lines. The BBS alloy wheels, chrome exhaust, Halogen headlamps, metallic/mica paint job and soft top with a rear window glass insert are all class.
There are plenty of goodies onboard, but when the journey is this much fun you aren’t going to be all that concerned with spicing the trip up.
Looking to feel free with the wind rushing by you? Want something sporty with great handling and style? Then the Mazda MX-5 Roadster is what you’re looking for. Its all aluminum 2.0 litre duel overhead cam in-line 4 cylinder engine puts out a peppy 118 kW. The Mazda MX-5 is responsive at every speed, making the joy of driving really come alive. With a six-speed manual transmission that engages sweetly from gear to gear in quick response to the driver’s demands, and an automatic option that also boasts six-speed smooth-acting action the little MX-5 will overwhelm you with its fun factor. The Mazda MX-5 suspension is based on the Mazda RX-8’s multi-link design and a 50/50 balance between front and rear weight distribution so you will get nothing short of an exceptional ride and handling experience. Mazda’s legendary Zoom-Zoom factor therefore comes to the fore with the delightful MX-5 .
As far as convertibles go, the Mazda MX-5 is one of the best. It comes with a simple z-fold top that is easy to raise and lower. There is even a power retractable hardtop that, when closed, doesn’t compromise trunk space. The Mazda MX-5 offers both front and side airbags, Dynamic Stability Control and 4-wheel Anti-lock brakes – there are even run-flat tyres that will take you to the service station when tire pressure is lost and the service station is not as close as you would like. The interior is well designed; the driver and passenger seats fit you like a glove and are designed to enhance comfort and stability. The steering wheel provides a clear view of the instrument gauges and is capable of tilting, and it hosts controls not only for the cruise control but also for the audio system. Surprisingly for a vehicle of its size, the Mazda MX-5 has some unique storage spaces, from the glove box to the centre console to two additional compartments behind each seat and a cargo net beside the center console. The MX-5 provides a lot more storage area than one would expect. There are even cup holders built into the doors.
Hop in and drive the brilliant Mazda MX-5 Roadster, and you might just feel like a kid all over again!
