Rated as one of the nicest looking cabriolets available, the Peugeot 308 CC has a sharp styling profile that looks both extremely sporty and glitzy. I reckon it’s in the lengthy, raked front windscreen that envelopes over the heads of the front occupants. Add some standard 17-inch alloys (18-inch alloys optional), well-dressed headlights, a tight rear-end, a diesel and petrol options, and you have the complete package.
All models cope with high speeds in a composed manner. Cornering is superb and fuel economy for a roadster like this is second to none. Standard safety features include roll over protection and a comprehensive list of passive and active safety features.
You are going to enjoy this action packed number from Peugeot.
This one’s hot! In my book, this is the pick of the cabriolet models in the entire Peugeot line-up. I heard you ask why. So I best give my explanation.
I reckon the overall size is right on this one. Bigger than the 207 CC, the balanced proportions on the Peugeot 308 CC are strikingly excellent. Not only does the bigger body show off the sharp nose and high waistline in a larger more magnificent way, but the overall presence is bigger and more dominant, making the interior room of the Peugeot 308 CC first-rate.
This is a nippy drive. And it should be, as Peugeot know how to make a fun driver’s car. Slip into the hot seat and you will enjoy the way the car can be happily thrown about the corners at a silly speed and remain pinpoint accurate where the driver holds the car’s line to. There are two models available: the 308 CC S with a 1.6 litre petrol engine, and the 308 CC S with a 2.0 HDi diesel engine. The more responsive engine is the 1.6 litre Turbo engine. A true performer, the little engine has a lot of punch to send at the road ahead. Quick pick up allows a 0-100 km/h time of 9.8 seconds. But where you can really let your hair down is when the car sails along at the open road speed limit. The car has extremely good mid-range response making passing slower traffic fun, and when the sprightly engine lets rip with the sparkling 308 CC chassis design the two together work wonders on the road. The 1.6 litre motor is linked to a four-speed auto that hunts between gear ratios freely as required.
Flicking over to the Peugeot 308CC 2.0 HDi diesel model, you’ll find that the sun on the skin, and being surrounded by Peugeot luxury, can’t get any better for a superbly relaxed touring experience. The turbo-diesel engine has plenty of power for cruising at motorway speeds and, as it is linked to a superb six-speed auto gearbox, the vehicle always feels in the optimum torque zone for both cruising and crisp acceleration. As you can imagine, the fuel efficiency in the Peugeot 308 CC 2.0 HDi is outstanding and really sends the cabriolet right to the top of its class.
A Peugeot 308 CC is built and designed as a four seater. Thus, the four lucky occupants do have plenty of room. French designed, the seats are terrifically comfortable. If you can see yourself behind the wheel for long periods at any one time, then you will be impressed with the way the Peugeot 308 CC can caress its occupants for hours on the road. Inside the Peugeot 308CC you’ll find that the ride comfort is exceptional, and as the car is superbly well equipped with cruise control plus a speed limiter, remote control central locking, electronic parking assistance (front and rear), electric windows with a one-touch feature, a height and reach adjustable steering wheel, an electrochrome rear view mirror, electrically operated and heated door mirrors, tinted glass, a premium audio system with speed related volume controls, dual zone climate control air conditioning and a cool airwave neck scarf.
Even if you just want to look great, the 308 CC has to be a car on your “gotta buy” list. I love the air conditioned glove box which allows for carrying a nice sparkling wine that you might want to keep cool for the picnic. And I don’t know anyone who likes eating melted chocolate biscuits or warm lettuce sandwiches!
Glancing at the speedometer not only informs you of how fast you are moving but the white instrument dials are classy looking and simple to read. There is plenty of flair inside the Peugeot 308 CC. It’s like the difference between a free flowing try scoring rugby league feast with lots of colour in the crowd and fun to be had, and a mundane low scoring test draw with a half filled stand in a howling southerly. Peugeot interiors leave you impressed with their panache and exquisite detail and quality. That is why you get rather let down slipping back into a Corolla rental after driving something like this one.
One of the safest cars in its class, not to mention the sexiest.
