Living with the latest Peugeot 4007 is, definitely, no hardship. The comfort and refinement of the big SUV is wrapped up in one of the most stunning designs. Flared wheel arches, large alloy wheels and an elevated ground clearance convey the Peugeot 4007’s ability to cover the ground both on the road and off it.
The ST models come with either the manual six-speed gearbox or the six-speed sequential gearbox. Buying the Peugeot 4007 SV has the sequential gearbox as standard. All four 4007 models comes with a superb 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine. Low-to-mid-range response is seamless and quiet, while the efficiency of the engine results in a class leading fuel economy figure of around 7 litres/100 km.
Loaded with nice features, the big wagon is entertaining and perfect for the long haul. Traction control is standard, ABS brakes, climate controlled air conditioning, six airbags and alloys for all the models. Heading off road into snow or muddy fields will mean that you’ll need 4WD. At the touch of a button, you can select the 4 wheel drive lock mode and you’ll be in permanent all-wheel drive with 50/50 front to rear torque distribution. Hit the tarmac again, and flick it back to ‘On Demand 4WD’. The saving on economy is massive with the Peugeot 4007 running in 2WD most of the time.
This is not your ordinary SUV vehicle. This is something a little more special. Rated as one beautiful looking cross-over, the Peugeot 4007 is exquisitely designed with character. The warm expression on the 4007’s face is one that is pleasant on the eye and nicely balanced. Proportionally, the 4007 is a work of art. An aggressive stance that is wide, tall and handsome, gifted with a high waistline and accentuated wheel arches. You’ve got a vehicle here that can carry the kids to the football final, head off the road for an adventure crossing river beds along the way and a vehicle that will seat your family and your in-laws for the family reunion. This is a car with class, a vehicle with style and one of those sort of vehicles that will put its hand up and take a car of the year award.
The Peugeot 4007 is a big machine. At 4635 mm long, 1715 mm high and 2072 wide, the Peugeot 4007 has room – and plenty of it. Take for example the carrying space. With the second row of seats in their upright position, the luggage space in the boot is a colossal, and exceptionally useful, 589 litres that has a lot of height in its dimension. Fold the seats down flat, electrically, and the Peugeot 4007 has a magnificent 1691 litres of space. And the loading height at the back bumper is only 60cm. I find the Peugeot 4007 to be magnificently practical and, in true French fashion, outstandingly comfortable to travel in.
Peugeot have created the 4007 to be a master of the rough stuff. The new 4007 has brilliant technology incorporated in its rugged design. Designed to tackle the toughest conditions, the Peugeot 4007 has a sensible 4wd ‘on demand’ system that provides two-wheel-drive fuel efficient performance most of the time but, when the conditions become rugged and slippery, it has the goods to keep you moving in the right direction. So depending on your selection, you can lock the four-wheel-drive system and unleash its full fifty percent to the rear and fifty percent to the front traction upon on the terrain ahead – with a commanding delivery of traction.
Equipped with headlight washers and a windscreen that electronically detects how heavily the water droplets are falling outside, the Peugeot 4007 is likely to be the most advanced and stylish SUV you’ll ever need.
Lift up the sleek 4007 bonnet, and underneath is a diesel engine that is simply world class. Possibly the best diesel engine for a car of this type in the world, the 2.2 litre HDi has a grunty 115 kW. The beautifully flat torque curve peaks at a hefty 380 Nm from as low as 2000 rpm. This is quite exceptional power that makes off-roading work and towing a trailer relaxed. Balanced to provide effortless power and frugal fuel efficiency, the 2.2 HDi motor is capable of hitting 200 km/h at the top end while accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 9.9 seconds (six-speed manual form).
Cruising the motorway at high speed need only require 5.8 litres/100 km in the Peugeot 4007. Tackle the city the 4007 way, and you can experience just 9.2 litres/100 km of fuel usage. A combined cycle of 7.0 litres/100 km leaves you well and truly head and shoulders above any possible rival. Miserly fuel consumption, a useful 60 litre fuel tank and a CO2 emission level of only 185 g/km is a winner for your pocket and a winner for the environment. You can opt to own your 4007 with the delightfully sweet six-speed automatic.
Superior balance and brakes make the Peugeot 4007 a crisp handler with a pure blend of ride comfort, taut road-holding and grip.
Equipped with modern and classy features, the Peugeot 4007 is a lovely place to spend a number of hours on the road – or off it. First of all you can have the 4007 kitted out with seating for seven. The seats are leather upholstered and sumptuous for any butt and back combination. Sculptured to fit the human body and not the design budget, the seats inside the Peugeot 4007 are totally relaxing. The front seats are electronically adjustable (and heated in the Peugeot 4007 SV model). UV rays are thwarted with tinted windows, so just sit back and enjoy the standard six-speaker audio unit with steering wheel mounted remote controls. For those who like a few extra options, you can equip your 4007 with Bluetooth capability and a Rockford premium sound system. There are of course many other options you might like to consider as well.
Safety is a Peugeot quality. Peugeot, and Renault, are the world’s safest cars in their class. You can’t go past these two French marques when it comes to premium safety. So, a quick glance at the current ANCAP and Euro NCAP crash test results reveal just how well built cars from these manufacturers are. That is why inside a Peugeot 4007 you will find first class safety equipment.
From the wide open grille at the front to the sweetest SUV rear end at the back, the Peugeot 4007 is the best, most complete, SUV enchantment on the market.
