A five star safety award always speaks volumes for a car. And with the latest Peugeot 407 ruling the roost, you know that you are in safe hands driving the very suave, medium to large, motorcar.
Peugeot’s designers have opted to provide the 407 with just the two diesel engines. Extremely competent and frugal, the HDi units provide awesome everyday response and smooth refinement. Balance and precision are the hallmark of the way the big sedan and coupe implant themselves on the road, and it becomes very easy to move from point to point swiftly. The great combination of loads of torque, grippy handling and a cosseting ride are the perfect match for a smooth ride inside the beautifully crafted cabin.
Sitting on 17-inch alloys, splashes of chrome about the exterior and sexy low-profile lines equate to a stunning on road presence that few other cars can match. The new Peugeot 407 is a complete package. There are loads of features to enjoy. Eight airbags, automatic rain-sensing front wipers, cruise control with a speed limiter, dual zone climate control air conditioning, electronic parking assistance (front and rear), an Electronic Stability Program, rear-seat side sun blinds and tyre pressure sensors – to name a few.
The first time one of these cars came down the road, it caught my attention very quickly. The new Peugeot 407 has very distinctive, light and sexy lines that swoop up and over the A-pillar, gathering graceful speed running along the roof line and slipping over the curvaceous back end. The French enjoy their perfume, beautiful women and lingerie, and like a good pinot noir the 407, looks superbly classy. The Coupe is one of the classics in automotive design – of all time.
The Peugeot 407 comes with a wide array of exciting models and engine choices. There are three awesome body styles. Good looking sedans, stationwagons and coupes are available. Let’s start with what lies underneath their sleek bonnet lines; and we’ll start with the gorgeous Coupe. The Peugeot 407 Coupe has good pace to match the swift exterior lines. The 3.0 V6 petrol engine is punchy and has a torque figure of 290 Nm, and a power ouput of 155 kW. The 2.7 litre twin-turbo diesel is superb, and it is one of the best around. The car is excellent point to point and excels in passing slower traffic on the open road. In a straight line, the 0-100 km/h dash is competed in just 7.9 seconds. The family oriented sedan and stationwagon versions also have the engines mentioned above, but also boast a 2.2 litre 100 kW petrol engine and a very fuel efficient 2.0 litre turbo diesel. The little diesel has an average fuel consumption of 5.9 litres/100 km, which is remarkable when you consider the big spacious body and solid weight. The gearbox options are wide. The very robust 5-speed manual is light and easy to use. The 6-speed manual has a nice feel. And the very well designed autos come with a 4-speed and a 6-speed option. Both have a Tiptronic auto adaptive gearbox and are relaxing to drive.
All Peugeots come well equipped and boast a height and reach adjustable steering wheel. The more money laid down on the table will get you more luxurious packages. Luxury items like cruise control with a speed limiter, a rear parking aid, a steering column with entertainment controls, dual zone air conditioning and electric memory front leather seats are excellent possibilities. All models are well endowed with loads of storage bins for those little items that inevitably find their way into the cabin.
A Peugeot 407 is safe. I don’t really need to add anything further on the topic when Peugeot continually excels in crash test results. The full coveted five stars are scored for the 2008 Peugeot 407. But I will mention a few extra things anyway: front driver and passenger SMART airbags, front side and curtain airbags, rear side and curtain airbags and a collapsable steering column are standard. Other safety features include ABS with EBFD Anti-lock brakes, dynamic stability control, a tyre pressure sensor, pre-tensioning seatbelts and a fuel cut-off inertia switch. So, you see, these results and items should make you feel very confident with the purchase of a class leader like the Peugeot 407.
Don’t forget that Peugeot handling is superb. The very dynamic and grippy handling of a 407 is off the top shelf.
Slip in and drive one of the best looking cars on the road today. A car that has hot looks, decent room, a loaded kit and premium safety. You will enjoy owning the suave Peugeot 407.
