Saab 9-5 SportCombi

Here's a sporty wagon for Australia: the new Saab 9-5 SportCombi.

Chuck the sports gear in. Chuck the picnic basket in. Chuck the picnic chairs in. And chuck, no… help the dog in to the wide open void of the all new Saab 9-5 SportCombi luggage area. Introduced at the Geneva motor show, the Saab 9-5 SportCombi is one exciting wagon that is now arriving in Australia. It’s a rather special drive that provides luxury, flair and plenty of sporty flavour.

Slip into the leather seats, and the car very quickly makes you feel cosseted and at home. Distinctively Saab on the inside, the Saab 9-5 SportCombi has that upright dash facia which incorporates a cockpit styled area for the driver. Driving enthusiasts will enjoy the close link between car and human response. All the switchgear is ergonomically excellent, while the driving position and comfort is second to none. A full and curvaceous centre console swoops down from a large multimedia screen in the middle of the dash. Curves are part of Saab’s design work and you’ll find them in the wrap-around leather sport seats, the C-pillar, the roof line, the dash, the centre console, the windows, the lights and the beautiful exterior lines.

A Pilot Heads-Up Display is a key feature in the Saab 9-5 SportCombi’s safety equipment list. European crash tests have given the Saab 9-5 SportCombi the big thumbs up. Offset crash tests at 65 km/h have proven the Saab 9-5 SportCombi to be very stable and safe.

Some of the onboard features to make your time with the Saab 9-5 SportCombi entertaining and relaxing are things like Saab’s tri-zone air-conditioning, premium audio sound, electric windows, keyless entry and a smart load carrying area that has an adaptable multi-fold floor (Essentially, the load floor tumbles forward in sections to reveal a storage area underneath, which varies in depth depending on whether you order the car with a space-saver spare tyre or not.), flexible U-rail load space configuration and underfloor storage that can take wet stuff in a sealed compartment (Taking wobbly jellies to birthday parties gets a whole lot easier!). A lot of people will like the practicality of the Saab 9-5 SportCombi. The Saab 9-5 Sedan is an awesome car with a big boot but having the added load space of the Saab 9-5 SportCombi adds to the practical side, somewhat.

Are the Saab 9-5 SportCombi versions going to be fun to drive? You bet they are! The engine choices will be pretty much the same as in the Saab 9-5 Sedan. Choice between a 4-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, a turbocharged V6 2.8-litre engine and a 4-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel engine provide the get-up-and-go. All offer responsive performance, while the 221 kW V6 is an exceptionally thrilling drive. Linked to AWD, you can imagine how much grip and acceleration you have on hand to play with. The four pot 2.0-litre isn’t much slower, while the diesel option is exceptionally smooth, lusty and economical. Economy figures of a little over 5 litres/100 km should be expected with diesel versions.
