I’ll start with the news that the latest Mitsubishi Triton has won the prestigious Overlander Magazine’s 4WD of the Year Award. Such is the ability of the Triton’s off-roading and onroad aptitude, performance and comfort.
When I first set eyes on the new Triton ute, I knew this was going to be something special. So what’s it got that makes it so good? With the latest engine technology, high payload capacity, excellent interior comfort and superior safety, the Triton is a step ahead of the competition. For the toughest work ute in Australia, you still have some standout features available- even in the base models: a grunty 2.4-litre petrol engine, power steering, a heavy duty suspension, driver and passenger SRS airbags, air-conditioning, power windows and central locking with remote keyless entry.
If you can hand over a few more coins, then the GLX model comes available with the option of the excellent new 2.5-litre turbo-diesel, an optional four-speed auto, a black grille with chrome bars, a limited slip differential, ABS and EBD, Active Stability and Traction Control, power mirrors, Bluetooth phone connectivity, an audio system with MP3 compatibility, Aux In, USB and iPod control, and the all important cruise control. The GL-R is the top of the range – and it looks hot, too – with a few extra bells and whistles both on the exterior and inside the cabin.
The brand new Mitsubishi Triton is a standout performer, and it also comes with competitive pricing and Mitsubishi’s superior five year/130,000 km warranty.
Do you want a pickup truck that stands out from the more mundane rivals? The Mitsubishi Triton is just the truck you need.
The double cab is the perfect people and cargo mover for the very toughest conditions. However, the single cabs are a real workman’s companion. With over 60% of the Triton’s body made from high tensile and galvanized steel, you’ll rest assured that this truck is made for hard honest work. Just like the Mitsubishi trucks of old, the all new technologically advanced machine will provide years of hassle free service and reliability.
A Mitsubishi Triton can come fitted with three different engine configurations and three different cab styles.
If 4×4 traction is not necessary, then the 4×2 single cab and double cab versions can be powered by the gutsy 2.4 litre 94 kW @ 5250 rpm, 194 Nm @ 4000 rpm petrol engine – on the GL model. A diesel single cab 4×2 truck has power a-plenty with a turbo-powered 2.5 litre 100 kW @ 3800 rpm, 314 Nm @ 2000 rpm motor.
If 4×4 grip is a requirement, then you will be happy to know that the brilliant new turbo-diesel fed 2.5-litre.131 kW @ 4000 rpm, 400 Nm @ 2000 rpm motor powers a nice GLX equipped model that comes as a single or double cab. I’ll also mention that at just 1800 rpm the new diesel has a collossal 350 Nm of torque to do the business. It’s needless, perhaps, to mention that the GLX models have a higher standard of equipment onboard. Hone in on the GL-R model and a lot of sporty flavour and extra luxuries come into the mix.
The 4-wheel drive models can “shift on the fly” in and out of 4-wheel-drive. So don’t worry if you have forgotten your gumboots!
The interior of the Triton is designed with your comfort in mind. The double cab trucks have plenty of room for five. The front bucket seats are awesomly supportive and very comfortable for the long hours spent behind the wheel. Cloth, sports cloth and leather are available according to the buyer’s preference. Inside the Triton, there is loads of storage space. The centre console and large glove box are hidden nicely under the dash compartment. You also have a choice of audio systems with CD capability. Loud crystal-clear music can rock your socks off, if you so desire.
Safety features are top of the line. The Mitsubishi Triton comes with side-door impact beams, childproof rear door locks and driver and passenger SRS airbags. There is also ABS brakes to ensure you stop when, and where, you want to.
Until I experienced the joy of owning a 4×4, which ultimately gave me the ability to comfortably carry up to 5 passengers off-road – as well as cargo, you wonder how you ever lived without one! The Mitsubishi Triton is the workhorse that leads the way. Stylish and sporty, balanced and dynamic, this ute is exciting.
