Simply a massive van, the nice looking Volkswagen Crafter is the van that any business wants to own. This is a purpose built commercial vehicle that is very comfortable to drive, very safe and superbly stable on the road.
From its striking new styling, to the sheer variety of models on offer, the new Volkswagen Crafter is impeccably built and, more often than not, exceeds all expectations.
Inside the cab, the interior has a high quality finish. Air-conditioning, a grunty sound system, a rake and reach steering column and supportive seats provide the comfort and practicalities you need for long hours behind the wheel.
Power and fuel efficiency are other areas that the Crafter excels in. Its range of powerful TDI diesel engines match up nicely.
“Craft” can mean cunning and cleverness, or it can mean a vehicle designed to take things and go places. Whoever named the Volkswagen Crafter was inspired, and so were the design team behind this great commercial van.
The first thing anyone wants to ask when choosing a commercial vehicle, whether they plan on using it to transport working gear, for delivering goods or for conversion into a wheelchair taxi (you could, if you wanted, convert the Volkswagen Crafter into an ambulance or a camper) is how big the load space is. Well, this depends in part on which Volkswagen Crafter you prefer: the Crafter Van, the Cab Chassis or the Volkswagen Crafter Hannover Bus.
The Hannover Bus has enough seats for 14 (the driver and a baker’s dozen of passengers). As it is designed to take people rather than packages, the load space is limited to what’s behind the seats, which is still fairly generous. Some standard features in the Volkswagen Crafter Hannover Bus point to its intended use as a form of public transport: emergency glass-breaking hammers, a fire extinguisher, four dome lights in the passenger compartment. Three point seatbelts are provided in all seats, and this vehicle would make a smart and stylish choice for a school bus or as a shuttle bus. One engine type is available for the Volkswagen Crafter Hannover Bus, and it’s a big 2.5 litre 10-cylinder turbocharged diesel capable of wringing out 100 kW of power and 300 Nm of torque. This is harnessed to a six-speed manual transmission, and the brakes have all the abbreviations to ensure passenger safety: EBD, ABS, TCS, EDL (electronic differential lock) and ESP.
The ordinary Volkswagen Crafter Van is the likely choice for couriers. Again, you’ve got options, with a long wheel base and a short wheel base being available, and four body lengths and three roof heights. The biggest Volkswagen Crafter van has a cargo space of 17 cubic metres, while the smallest option has 9 cubic metres of cargo space – plenty to fit in what you need. The Volkswagen Crafter Van offers three engine choices, just to give you a few more options: the 2.5 litre diesel engine comes in 80 kW, 100 kW and 120 kW versions. And just to give you a bit more choice, all three engine types come with a six-speed manual transmission, but the 80 kW and 100 kW models have a six-speed shiftmatic transmission option.
And then we’ve got the Volkswagen Crafter Cab Chassis, which is more or less like a ute. This again has plenty of options to choose from, starting with a choice between a single cab and a dual cab. The single cab Volkswagen Crafter Single Cab Chassis comes with two wheelbase lengths. You can also select the Volkswagen Crafter Dual Cab, again with two wheelbase lengths. The load tray has a drop-side option for ease of access. The Volkswagen Crafter Cab Chassis has a range of engine options. While all engines are 2.5 litre diesels, the same 80, 100 and 120 kW engine choices (and their respective transmission options) are available in the Volkswagen Crafter Cab Chassis as they are in the van version.
