This has been a popular car for Suzuki Australia, and Suzuki New Zealand across the Tasman. Known as the Suzuki SX4, this is a car that is solidly built, a great size and does offer the added pleasure of AWD on some of its models. The i-AWD system is a switchable 3-mode 4×4 system that delivers advanced all-wheel traction.
Under the Suzuki SX4 hood, is a peppy 2.0-litre petrol engine boasting a lusty 112 kW of power and 190 Nm of torque. And to drive, the Suzuki SX4 is crisp and responsive with the throttle, and quick to provide balanced stopping power via the ABS braking system.
In the Suzuki SX4, you’ll find features like climate controlled air-conditioning, a keyless start system, anMP3 capable CD stereo with 9-speakers, six airbags and ABS brakes with EBD and BA.
Suzuki offers the new SX4 with a comprehensive three year/100,000 km warranty. And when you consider that each model sells for way under 30k, you know that you are on to a very good thing, indeed.
So much fun to drive: that’s what the Suzuki SX4 is all about. Of course, it’s more than that; the Suzuki SX4 is also a hot looking little number, comfortable and very economical. Cast our eye over the smooth, upright exterior lines and it is very evident that the SX4’s aggressive styling has a look that sets it apart from any other cars that care to rival the SX4.
So many things to do with cars are about getting the perfect balance. The balanced SX4 has headlights which wrap around the front corners, a high waistline that complements the teardrop roofline and finishes in a symmetrical rear light cluster at the back end, flared wheel arches all round, a pair of solid roof racks – if you so desire, and an excellent set of wing mirrors that are anything close to being puny.
On the road, the SX4 provides top levels of grip, particularly in AWD form. The balanced chassis rides nicely over undulated roads with a variety of surface chip, while the Active safety features work superbly to keep the SX4 accurately in line and focused on the job of covering the ground swiftly.
Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre, 16-valve, dual overhead cam, four-cylinder petrol engine. The four-cylinder is a responsive unit that is very free revving. Depending on your taste, you can choose either a four-speed automatic gearbox or a five-speed manual gearbox if you like to do things for yourself.
One of the key features of the Suzuki SX4 AWD is its three-mode all-wheel drive system which allows the driver to select how the power is administered to all four wheels. Differing road conditions make this feature an excellent addition and the i-AWD system handles it all in its stride. Most of the SX4 models are two-wheel drive, and these are the models that offer maximum fuel efficiency.
The interior of the Suzuki SX4 is just as pleasing as the exterior. There is ample room for comfortable open road touring or short, people moving trips around town. A number of audio entertainment options are at the ready to delight the musical ear. There is a standard CD audio system that plays MP3 and WMA audio files. The premium audio system has a 6-disk in-dash CD player featuring 9-speakers and some dash-mounted tweeters. It is a sweet unit that cranks out super sound quality. The premium sound package has an adjustable 100-Watt subwoofer that is located below the driver’s seat, and also comes XM satellite ready. Convenient controls for the audio system are located on the steering wheel, making it very easy for the driver to change the sound waves inside the cabin. Other nice features include power windows and door locks, a rear cargo shelf, power mirrors, a digital clock with outside temperature readings, air-conditioning and much more.
Rear passengers in the Suzuki SX4 feel in a more spacious environment, because the rear seats are higher than the front ones – allowing them to see through the windscreen, ahead.
In the ANCAP crash testing results, the Suzuki SX4’s passenger compartment held its shape well in the front-on impact crash test. It also performed with top marks in the side on test and optional pole test. Safety features include: dual stage front and side curtain driver and passenger airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners, anti-lock disc brakes with EBS (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), rear door child safety locks, and front and rear side impact beams.
Not only is it fun to drive, the Suzuki SX4 is safe, comfortable and very economical. The SX4 2WD and AWD models handle well, and even the top models are well under $30,000. Opt for the S models, and the finish is a little more sporty in its tone. You’ll also find a few options in the standard models become standard features in the S models. Suzuki SX4 cars come in Sedan and hatchback guise.
