League players have that fantastic ability to bust the tackle and out sprint their opponent. With 310 kW and 565 Nm, the Ford F6 applies the power to the road in a fashion that will take your breath away. Like a side stepping State Of Oregon player, the Ford F6 has a premium sports suspension that keeps the car’s handling level and the opposition guessing.
Potent performance doesn’t have to cost the earth. At under 70k, the FPV F6 is a big, roomy sports sedan that competes on the same level as the much more expensive BMW and Mercedes Benz models. HSV is another well priced Aussie competitor, but you probably know all about this one. So what would pull you away from the Blue Oval? It’s all down to taste, but more power, more torque, and for less money than the F6, the Chrysler 300C SRT8 will probably hit the FPV F6 with the hardest punch. However, the FPV F6 is a class act.
Engine performance in the F6 sedan is special; in fact the exhilarating turbocharged inline six is very quick and smoothly progressive in its delivery of acceleration up to, and well beyond, the 200 km/h mark. Big performance isn’t always easy to live with on everyday roads and everyday city commutes. However, Ford has cleverly ironed out the take-off performance of the FPV F6 so that the car is very friendly and easy to use about town.
Ride and comfort are good, considering this is a quickie. On the practical side, you’ll find that the seating and luggage space is excellent. Throwing gear into the 535-litre boot space is like throwing food into a teenage boy. It’s amazing how much the F6 will swallow before it feels full. That’s a handy feature to have along with the scintillating performance. You will be in hot demand for taking some of the sports team for their away games.
Detailing and switchgear inside the FPV F6 is clean and neatly displayed. Standard equipment includes cruise-control, dusk-sensing headlamps, dual-zone climate control, a six-disc CD audio system with 3.5mm auxiliary input, Bluetooth phone integration, rear parking sensors, fog lamps and 19-inch alloy wheels. The interior of the F6 features the new high-tech, user-friendly Interior Command Centre (ICC) with an 8-inch colour touch screen that puts all the smart technology and in-car functions at the driver’s finger tips. One of the cool features for the driver is that when you select reverse gear, the 8-inch screen also displays vision from the F6’s standard rear view camera. What a great way of scanning the landscape behind you before you plant the accelerator. iPod and USB connectivity are also standard features in the FPV F6 310 sedan
FPV five-star safety features are amongst some of the best and highly regarded. Four-piston Brembo brakes do an amazing job of hauling the F6 back from high speed. The F6 sedan is also equipped with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and side curtain airbags. Other safety features include Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), a 4-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), driver and front passenger airbags plus front seat side thorax airbags and belt reminder technology.
You can bet that I’d love to have one of these parked up my driveway, long-term. The FPV F6 is a performance car that always makes your outings a heap of fun.
