Vying for the best luxury sports sedan in Australia is the excellent new FPV F6 E. Jaw dropping performance laced in lavish luxury sounds more like a great night in the bedroom, however I assure you that this article is all about the mighty FPV F6 E sedan.
Instead of starting with the stats on power, let’s enter the car’s cabin and see why this vehicle is such a sweet drive. Luxury appointments are all round the cabin. The ultimate sports sedan for the executive or discerning family man, the FPV F6 E boasts supportive leather seats, a dark walnut wood-grain finish on the dashboard and doors, and luxurious 8-way adjustable seating with three seat memory positioning at the front. Copious leg room makes the wide backseat excellent for taking people out for lunch. The classy dash is beautifully sculptured and boasts an uncluttered, user-friendly layout.
Recently, FPV has introduced the new Interior Command Centre (ICC) system that flaunts an 8-inch colour touch screen. This is a system that is loaded with smart, modern technology to keep you and the F6 E’s occupants informed about satellite navigation with features like ‘Green Routing’ which calculates the most economical, fastest and shortest routes available, the choice of 2D or 3D map modes, and speed camera warnings. When the reverse gear is selected, the ICC screen also displays vision from the F6 E’s rear view camera. Bluetooth, iPod and USB connectivity are also standard on-board the modern FPV F6 E.
I’ve always been a bit partial to creature comforts in a car. As you may guess, it’s the leather seats, dual-zone climate control, six-CD audio with aux input, cruise control and Bluetooth that make the FPV F6 E pull my strings and provide such a great way of spending an intercity journey in a relaxed and entertained manner. But it’s also the way a car delivers in the areas of power and handling that pushes my buttons, so let’s take a look under the F6 E’s hood.
Ford designs their FPV vehicles for the ultimate driving experience, and for an FPV to pass with flying colours it needs to be quick. The moment you demand power from the engine, the 4.0-litre, turbo-charged, DOHC 24 valve in-line six cylinder engine instantaneously responds. Producing a maximum power of 310 kW at 5500 rpm, and a maximum torque level of 565 Nm across 1950-to-5200 rpm, the FPV F6 E has the muscle to send you flying from 0-100 km/h in well under six seconds – but in this car’s case, all wrapped up in leather and wood veneered luxury. Tweaked for dynamic road holding, the big FPV F6 sedan easily carves up the corners with enough comfort to make long journeys comfy and swift – just the way I like it! Power is connected to the massive 19-inch tyres via a ZF six-speed automatic transmission with sequential sports shifting ability.
FPV F6 E safety is also exceptional, with driver and front passenger airbags, curtain airbags plus front seat side thorax airbags, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Beltminder technology, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), a 4-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) and a reverse sensing system as standard items. Big hearty Brembo brake calipers offer a huge level of bite for pulling the F6 E back in emergency stops. The F6 E also features 355 x 32mm cross drilled and ventilated front rotors with Brembo 6 piston callipers and 330 x 28mm cross drilled and ventilated rear rotors with Brembo 4 piston callipers as standard safety/performance items.
Blow away the cob webs and excite your drive like never before with a drive in a gifted new FPV F6 E sedan.
